Annoying IE behaviour... backspace goes back a page

Sometimes when I’m typing in either the address bar or a form on a web page, I find that using the Backspace key to delete mistakes sends me back to the previous page, or even back several pages. This is really irritating.

It seems like the page is changing its focus - I know that Backspace is a short-cut key for “back a page” but this should overridden when the cursor is in a text box. I think it may be if the page is not completely loaded when I start to type - when it completes loading it shifts the focus and blam, I’m back on the wrong page.

Equally annoying is when Google (for instance) shifts the focus to the Address bar from the Search box. Say I call up Google and instantly start typing in the Search box, say “Straight Dope Message Board”

I hit enter and suddenly notice that the Search box just says “Straigh” and the browser is now trying in vain to find “t Dope Message Boardhttp://www.google.com”. Not very helpful.

Does anyone else get this behaviour? Is there any way round it? I don’t have access to the IE preferences as it is a work machine.

Even if I could help you, you wouldn’t be able to implement it as you can’t access the preferences. My suggestion is run Mozilla. As to the second part: Yup, that sucks, I hate that too.
