'Tis the season to swipe purses.....

God Damn this pisses me off!

Tonight I took my daughter and her friend shopping. My kid needed shoes and other girly type stuff. As a dad of a 13 year old girl I’ve learned to let her and her friend to do their shopping thing while I do mine, and do damage control later.

Well I do my shopping and it’s time to hunt them down, and as usual they’re in the changing room trying stuff on. When I walk up there some bastard is making a move on their cart to swipe their purses. He immediately backed off when I came around the corner, went off to play like he was innocently browsing the women’s clothing then slowly slinked away. As he did this I saw him hook up with someone he knew wearing a blue cap.

Both of these bastards were in their late 20’s or early 30’s and looked perfectly normal, except for being a couple of guys hanging out in women’s clothing by the changing rooms.

I just hung out by my daughter’s cart and watched out for these assholes. A minute or so later they both came back and again were just innocently browsing the women’s clothing. We made eye contact a few times as they peeked around the corners and it became obvious they we going to try wait me out. I had my own cart and I’m sure it wasn’t clear to them I had an interest in the cart they eyeballed.

I figured out why the one of them was wearing a blue cap, it matched the display rack 3 isles over from the changing rooms. The little bastard kept sticking his head up over the isle to see if I was still there. I even toyed with him a ducked down so he couldn’t see me over the isle and I see his head sticking out the side.

This game went on for about 10 or 15 minutes, and then figured I’d go talk to them. As soon as I made a move their way they were out of the store like a shot. They had the blend and escape move down pat.

God Damn this pisses me off! Happy fucking holiday season. There is nothing so desperate around here that people need to be swiping teenagers purses to survive. You filthy bastards. I hope karma gives you everything you have coming.

No, I didn’t report it to the store, they were already gone. This may be a mistake on my part.

Yes, I ripped the girls for leaving their purses in the cart.

:frowning: :frowning: :frowning:

'Tis the season to be a scumbag, it seems. Good on you for spooking them away. Your girl and her friend would’ve been a mess if their purses had been stolen.

:frowning:
Max.

They left their purses lying around unattended while they were trying on clothes? I can’t tell from your profile where you live, but 'round these parts you might as well just give them to the muggers as do that.

Can’t anyone spell aisle?

Ray Davies just got shot for confronting a purse snatcher. 'Course a mall is different from The Big Easy, but be careful hombre!

Good eyes tho.

Eve, some places will not allow you to take bags/big purses in to the changing rooms.

misstee: Well, I understand that from the store’s POV. But then, shouldn’t there be a transfer of responsibility, i.e. “We want you to leave your bag outside so you don’t steal OUR stuff, and we’ve provided a cubicle for it so nobody steals YOUR stuff”?

Really? I’ve never had that problem. Maybe I just look innocent. Once or twice I have passed by a desk where they stapled everyone’s packages – but that’s it.

I have found my dream security purse. It’s a shoulder bag with an adjustable strap long enough to go across the body. It has two small and out-of-sight small steel cables running through the strap so it can’t be cut through, zippers that lock and lots of room. It was in the catalog of either Travel Smith or Magellan – I can’t remember which, but I did find the website:

The last time I was held up, I made the man give my purse back with my English-teacher-evil-eye. This idea is better.

If I saw someone with really suspicious in a store, I would use my cell phone to call store security.

I know it’d be heavy as heck, but I wish they made a purse like this. I’d love to see them grab that.
