To all cooks

Years ago my father made a dessert with vanilla wafers, lemon pudding and bananas.

I haven’t been able to find this recipe, although I would dearly love to do so.

If anyone knows what else this dessert should have, I’d like to know.

Sounds similar to what I know as “lemon icebox pie”. My family makes the filling with sweetened condensed milk and lemon juice, not lemon pudding, but that’s probably similar. The vanilla wafers are laid in the pie pan to form the pie crust, and the whole thing’s topped with meringue.

There’s another dessert we make with vanilla wafers and bananas - banana pudding. Could you be getting these two mixed up? Or maybe your dad just made lemon icebox pie with bananas.

I guess you don’t hear the term “icebox” too much anymore (it means refrigerator, for all you kids). Back when I was a kid in the 60s, that’s what it was called, and although we would have known what you were talking about if you said “refrigerator”, you would get some funny looks.

Oh, and I found an online recipe, although these pinkos use graham crackers instead of vanilla wafers as the crust:

For some reason, I’m thinking that the recipe you seek was originally printed on boxes of Nilla vanilla wafers…

Yes, I saw that recipe on a box of Vanilla wafers some years ago, and wanted to buy it, but my husband for some unknown reason, voted it down.

It was some sort of lemon, not sure if it was pudding or not,and definitely bananas.

I found this recipe on Nabisco’s web site. They list vanilla or chocolate pudding, but I don’t see why you couldn’t just substitute lemon. They also have a bunch of other recipes with Nila Wafers, in case you wanted to experiment.
