Where’s the evidence he’s a leftist? Why couldn’t help be a conservative upset about how the atheist adulterous blasphemous mammon-worshipping golden calf making whore monger Trump is going to turn America into Sodom and Gomorrah?
No. But it was their fault that they captiously and childishly refused to recognize that even a turd sandwich is preferable to being force-fed a foot-long turd hoagie while standing up to one’s nostrils in a turd-filled hot tub.
“Waah! You didn’t give me an alternative I really liked so it’s your fault that I deliberately chose the worst possible option whose vastly greater flaws I was already fully aware of!” is not the way a rational adult defends their actions.
Good point!
AND say he wants to spit on children and skull fuck them??
That’s some serious Old Testament shit there.
Yes, okay they did that. The question you should be asking is “Why did they do that?”. Personally, I wouldn’t vote for either of them, but without understanding why someone voted against the ‘chosen’ candiate it is likely that the same mistake will occur again.
“Waah! You didn’t give me an alternative I really liked so it’s your fault that I deliberately chose the worst possible option whose vastly greater flaws I was already fully aware of, because you didn’t understaaaaaaand meeeeee!”
Look, at some point Republican voters have to take responsibility for their own actions as presumably rational adults. They didn’t only choose to vote for Donald Trump over Hillary Clinton: they also chose to nominate Donald Trump over every other possible Republican candidate that they could have picked.
It is way past time for Republicans, or those devil’s-advocating for Republicans, to stop crawling back to Democrats whining that it’s the Democrats’ fault they did something so stupid, and if the Democrats don’t work harder to understand and respect them then they’ll probably do something else just as stupid in the future, and it will be the Democrats’ fault again.
This is not a two-party political system, this is a classic abusive relationship.
Or
‘…they also chose to nominate Hilary Clinton over every other possible Democratic candidate that they could have picked…’
Not only that, but the Democratic leadership actively wanted her as their choice.
Didn’t wikileaks reveal that Clinton pressured her media allies to promote Trump as she felt he was the candidate she was most likely to defeat?
In coming to terms with the election result and the question Who voted for Trump? it is good to remember that among whites the R-candidate has beat the D-candidate in every Presidential election since the LBJ landslide of 1964.
Let me repeat that. All other things equal, if only white votes counted, the Republican wins all of the last 12 Presidential elections; the last time any Democratic candidate for President would have won was 52 years ago. (In 1992, Ross Perot siphoned off a huge portion of white votes and Clinton eked out a victory — but even then Bush still won more white votes than Clinton won.)
Here is a look at how white voters voted in the past three elections. In each case, of course, the larger number is the percent which voted for the GOP candidate:
Trump Romney McCain
White, college 49-45 (+4) 56-42 (+14) 51-47 (+4)
White, no college 67-28 (+39) 61-36 (+25) 58-40 (+18)
The 2016 GOP took a big loss in the “college” category (I think this is restricted to graduates, but not sure) compared with 2012 but insanity trounced among the less educated. Although white women voted for Trump in greater numbers than for Clinton; if we consider just white men Trump won by over a 2-1 margin even when educated men are included.
I didn’t find a vote breakdown both by race and state, but since Clinton beat Trump by a 9-1 margin in San Francisco, a 9-1 margin in Manhattan, etc. (almost a 3-1 margin in affluent Contra Costa county) we might conclude that even white men favored Clinton in regions with culture and information. Thus to account for the overall figures, the white vote must have been overwhelmingly pro-Trump in the Flyover Cesspool.
Staring at the demographic number just leads to nausea. For example, about 33 million millenials didn’t bother to vote at all; among those who did vote about a million who voted for Obama clicked on a 3rd-party candidate in 2016. One wants to applaud the educated Romney voters smart enough to vote Hillary, yet Trump still beat Hillary among white college grads. (Obviously the GOP always loses heavily among Americans with advanced degrees.)
Anyway, I suppose I support this Pitting. But be aware that we’re not Pitting a few despicable dolts, but rather the vast majority of white-skinned Americans in the “Heartland.”
So what gives? Obviously about half of white American have an IQ of 100+; how could they vote for the dismal sociopath? I think we can get some insight by listening to a Republican who was, barely, smart enough to vote for Hillary:
Does this strike other rationalists as bizarre? One makes up one’s mind about a key election in advance; finally marking the ballot is a straightforward formality. If I needed to make a vote I disliked there might be some early “soul-searching” but the actual act on Election Day would be simple routine. As with most Dopers, my political decisions are made with my head.
Not so for the amygdala-bloated “conservatives.” Cite. Cite. Video, mentioning that brain structure outperforms even parents’ orientation as a political orientation indicator. Liberals tend to have a developed anterior cingulate gyrus — the part of brain that processes new information. Conservatives tend to have a large amygdala — a “reptilian” part of the brain that generates emotions like fear and disgust.
Bricker has a well-developed brain (obviously I’m speaking metaphorically when I call him an “imbecile”) and is to be applauded for overcoming his bloated amygdala on that fateful Tuesday. Yet his post is instructive. It’s hard to imagine a normal rational thinker going through that experience at the polling station. His bloated amygdala, his need to map politics to the emotions of fear and disgust, was starkly on display.
Conservatives seem eager to inspect genital structure before allowing a citizen to use a bathroom. Perhaps we should inspect brain structure before allowing a citizen to vote! :smack:
Here’s what I wonder about Trump supporters, at least here: what do they think about the White House’s claims about inauguration attendance? About “alternative facts”?
Uh, no… I think it’s Trump.
Speaking as someone living in Germany: yep, definitely Trump.
No, no, I’ve heard this before. The world had nothing but contempt for the weakling Obama, and are pleased that America has had the good sense to elect a REAL man like Trump, whose strength they respect and are eager to work with.
Sheesh, get it right, people.
That is just not nice. In fact, it’s a great example of the hate and venom that divides this country right now. I am a Trump supporter and I wish you well.
I’m a suicide bomber, and I hope you all have a nice day.
Were Trump to respond to this, he’d say that you’ve been on the Dope 16 years and only have 1959 posts to show for it. Sad.
What Spicer said. It’s not about attendance, it’s about the media being so mean to Trump.
In what way is Trump forcing you? Was there an executive order or something that I haven’t heard about compelling the other side to say how they wanted to skull fuck children and blow up the White House and so forth?
Regards,
Shodan
