Consider if you will - something has happened that leaves you confined to your home. You are ambulatory within but you can’t go out. (Write your own backstory.)
Do you spend your days in jammies and/or loungewear, or do you dress as you usually would?
As for me, I’d probably stick with sweatpants or comfy pull-on pants, t-shirts, and slippers or comfy shoes. I can’t imagine getting bored enough that I’d put on jeans or a button-up blouse, or even a polo shirt. I suppose there could be days when I wouldn’t get out of my robe. Comfy would be the default.
Since retiring (and living alone) I usually lounge about in a muu-muu. When it’s hot, a tank top and panties. When it’s cold, a sweatshirt and pajama bottoms. I don’t entertain many visitors, but they’re lucky I’m dressed at all…the only thing is, it’s kind of a shock to the system to put on ‘real’ stiff clothes and shoes.
When i was working from home during covid, i decided that “dressing for work” would be good for my mental health, and i think it was.
I buy clothes for comfort, and now that I’ve retired, i generally wear the same clothes inside the house as i would if I were going outdoors. Except for shoes. I realized during the pandemic that i really don’t care for wearing shoes. When i dressed in metaphorical armor to venture out during the pandemic, i took off my shoes before i took off my mask. So i no longer wear shoes indoors, unless I’m going out soon. I have some cushy slides (oofos, with arch support) that i wear indoors to cushion my aging feet, and slip them off if I’m sitting down.
I pretty much wear jeans and comfortable knit shirts most days, whether going out, to work, or staying home. (Shorts in the summer for all except work.) If I were staying home, but not in bed, I assume I would dress as usual instead of staying in my PJs. Don’t have any other “in between” clothing. I have some athletic clothing for when I bike (just shorts and waterproof pants.) Wouldn’t wear those if not exercising.
Retired. When we get up I put on underwear, PJ bottoms and a t-shirt to read the paper and have breakfast. After I shave and brush my teeth I put on jeans and a knit top (with a pocket - I need a pocket) jeans and socks.
I feel more comfortable that way and it signals that I should do something.
If we’re going out I put on a better shirt.
GiantHoodie.com.(best things ever!)
Shorts or jammie bottom or leggings.
Tank or cami underneath.
Usually barefoot or socks.
(Just got new possum and weenie dog socks… so cute!)
My daughter’s call it my uniform.
When I go out, I might put on boyfriend jeans or my outside leggings. Add Crocs (don’t judge)
Dialysis days? Same as home unless I have somewhere to be after.
When I work from home I wear the same thing I wear on weekends, sweat pants and either a T shirt (when it’s warm) or a sweat shirt (when it’s cold). When I go into the office or if we go out somewhere I wear jeans instead of sweat pants.
I am most comfortable in jeans, tshirt, with sox and shoes on. I assume habit plays a large role in this, but although I sometimes laze around in a bathrobe for awhile before showering and getting dressed, eventually I always do even if I have no plans to leave the house.
If I’m not going out I wear ‘squishy clothes’, sweatpants or sweatshorts, or PJ bottoms, with a T shirt and slippers.
Going out, I put on unders and pants, or shorts, and shoes and socks, or sandals, depending on the weather. Jacket or coat as appropriate. Sometimes I wear a Hawaiian shirt if I’m in the mood.
I don’t find “regular” clothes uncomfortable. But I don’t like not having pockets; I don’t like drawstrings; and I don’t like pants that are too tight, or too loose but don’t have beltloops. All of which rules out some sweatpants or “jammies.”
I’m busy at home working in my workshop or garage or out in the yard. I’m wearing my Dickies work shirts and pants.
My workshop has a heater for the winter. I have a bathroom and slop sink in my workshop. Requires keeping the heat set on 45 to 50 to protect the pipes. I turn it up to 65F when I’m in there working.
I wear a tshirt and sweats when I am stuck inside. I always shower & shave every morning. Makes me feel better.
All seriousness aside, if I wasn’t ill, “real” pants, maybe jeans, sweater or buttoned shirt. Sweats, etc. mean I’m ill or doing cleaning, gardening, or the like.
