To Geeze or not to Geeze...

Within the past few days or weeks, the notion of geezing has come into focus – as if it hadn’t before.

In a nutshell, geezing is what geezers do and it’s either to geez or to geeze but it’s definitely not to Jeez(e) as in the nickname for you-know-who.

This thread is to explore the concept and its ramifications. If needed, I can supply numbers and links and whatnot to earlier discussions of the matter of aging and its offshoots. But this is just For Your Opinion of what’s worth talking about as it relates to you and your age group(s).

How long can this thread go before we start choosing sides?

Well, if this thread goes on long enough, the people who have NFI about how to geeze will have become very adept at it.

No way to dispute that! Goes with this idea as expressed by Sun Tzu

At the very least this thread has moved away from the 0-Replies curse.

I think this is going to spread like wildfire. In the past few days, I’ve seen an explosion of Get off my lawn.

That Sun Tzu quote is nasty, I love it.

To confuse matters, Geezer is also A shade more geez(e).

It’s good to belong.

We need to elect the geezest Doper, what say?

geezest or geeziest?

What is the past tense? geezed or goze?

Someone should organize a Geezer Parade. There’s nothing like a bunch of geezers paradin’ about.

Since we seem to be making it up as we go (I have yet to find a definition that applies to our usage of it) I like goze for its quaintness, but I could be persuaded that geezed is more useful in communicating the concept.

Do we need a poll yet?

Maybe we could get all country / rural and try guz?

That parade will look like the Monty Python 100 yard dash for people with no sense of direction.

Past tense should be geezed, a la wheezed (a related term).

We need to elect officers, or did we do that already?

GET OFF MY LAWN!

Geeze-in-chief?

Bless you; are you getting croup?

That would be Geeze-in-height, right?

I’ve been losing height steadily for the last 73 years; I’m now 3’ 5"…zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Jeez!

You jeezed?

(This all belongs in the Random Silliness thread)

Probably needs to return to whatever the main topic might have been…

Old Faithful perhaps?

Old Faithful BLOWS! <snicker>

Just as an experiment I looked up the word geezer in my Tenth Edition Webster’s Collegiate (2000) and found the same approximate wording as this online version

with the same alleged origin

That’s where you got the Old Faithful reference!

That’s where you…huh?

Not quite, but close. I had thought of geyser all by myself and then saw geiser in that definition. Happenstance, I swear.

The world is too small…
