JET has done it again; he has committed the crime of being a trollish fuckwit. Seriously, how has he NOT been banned?

He claims to have been a social outcast. It’s not hard to figure out why that might have been when you see what a fucking prick he is.

JET- you are not a voice for teenage outcasts. As a teenage outcast, all I can say is that fuckwits like you only serve to make us more ostracisized and misunderstood. The vast majority of us do not harbor fantasies of mass murder nor sympathize with such worthless cretins.

Isn’t it odd, JET, that most who perish in school shootings had nothing to do with the school shooters themselves? That victims at Columbine included primarily such hostile people as young girls, nerds and geeks, and just plain 'ol normal kids? Very few bullies actually took a bullet there, JET.

First of all, you skipped about 400 posts of mine (which, admittedly, are about more mundane topics like ebay and LOTR, and therefore less interesting.) Second, you completely misinterpreted my post and the thread that followed it. Not that anybody else understood it either…the GD thread got locked long before anything was resolved. To be honest, I did reread that post and it did sound quite a bit more harsh than I intended, when read in the light of day. Ehh, whatever. I still think the reactions were FAR over the top, and shows evidence that our society’s opinions on racism are way too convoluted and fucked up to see anything clearly. Or something.

You didn’t understand my point, then. To wit: It doesn’t matter if the victims ever did anything to the shooter. The people who victimized the shooter never had anything done to them by the shooter, either. If the shooter is given random distress that he/she does not deserve, he/she has the RIGHT, if not the DUTY, to spread that woe randomly as he/she sees fit. Get it?

I can’t say I disagree with that statement, in fact I am rather proud of it.

Everyone really seems blase’ about this. Am I really all that wrong to want a little more Iron Maiden on TV and a little less Britney Spears? Besides, it’s not about what’s popular…it’s about not having a CHOICE. I get about 30 movie channels and can usually find something every night to watch, whether it’s a tiny independent film (IFC ROX!!!) or some brainless blockbuster like Gladiator. But for music, it’s…hmm, let’s see…niggers, niggers, wetbacks, niggers, rednecks, more niggers, and old honkey fogeys. (Hey, I gotta give ammo to my detractors, it’s the least that I can do!)

I find it funny that he continually defends himself against his behavior by saying “They’re just WORDS!”, yet the whole reason he started the thread listed in the OP was because people were lambasting him… with words.

I don’t give a good goddamn what “nigger” means or connotes in Jeremoidal parlance; the rest of us are speaking English and we read your posts as if they were written in English. On our world, people who use the word “nigger” in most contexts are racist. The “exception” contexts do not include any conversation in which you have participated to date. So a shooter has a right to spread random woe because he’s been the target of it, obviously indicating that the woe randomly inflicted upon him was wrong… So to make it right, he has to randomly inflict woe upon others. Are you even trying to make sense? It sure doesn’t seem like you’re firing on all cylinders here…

I really don’t see how shooting some random people the guy doesn’t even know somehow makes him a “hero” in your eyes, while the every day people, even the ones who were nice to him, but get killed in the process, somehow deserve it.

Did you actually re-read those threads and still think your view of these situations is the correct one?

Or are you just so unable to admit you might have made a mistake that you are going to defend to the death (on this board, anyway) that you were right?

And in this latest debacle, let me tell you something. Nigger is not a word that should ever be used in ANY context…unless you are Black, in which case it would still be wrong but I guess if a black person chooses to use it they can’t be accused of being racist.

Jeremy, all I would ask is that you look at the things you have said here and consider that you might need to adjust your treatment, verbal or otherwise, of others.

I honestly do not understand why you feel the need to make yourself look like a totally bad person. I am very willing to believe that you are NOT a totally bad person, but if you honestly read the linked threads, I belive you will have to admit that you presented yourself as a bad person. And perhaps a threat to society.

Hey, he did me a favour. I used the word “gay” (in inverted commas) in CS, and it was only when I read JET’s thread that I realised my using the word in inverted commas (something I never do) needed instant clarification if I didn’t want to get reamed a new one.

I don’t necessarily agree that I was wrong, and I still believe that the reactions posted were waaaay over the top, but hey, that’s just indicative of the 21st Century’s status quo, isn’t it? Plus, I don’t like being called a racist or a bigot, when I know for a fact that I’m not. It’s a bullshit topic and I’m sick of discussing it already. So I’m sorry. Okay?

Now…in reply to Scotticher, about the more sociopathic threads, yes I do reread them, and no my opinion hasn’t changed much over the years. You see, I’m not really a troll. Everything I express about myself and my opinions is the god’s honest truth. In my opinion, the definition of a troll is a person who likes to push buttons by making inflammatory statements that they DON’T honestly believe in. And that’s probably why I’ve never been banned (especially after tonight, which kinda surprised me) because I think a good number of people here do realize that.

But still, I really do believe that people take these racial slurs waaaaay to fucking seriously. Maybe in a few days, when this all blows over, we can discuss THAT issue.

Or…maybe not.

JET, the fact that everything you express about yourself is a heartfelt opinion in no way exempts you from being a bigot, a racist, or a troll.

Every white supremecist I’ve ever met passionately believed in their viewpoint, but it didn’t make their viewpoint just, well-reasoned, unbiased, or non-inflammatory.

Yes, language is a dynamic thing - usage changes over time and then changes back again and takes 50 detours along the way.

There are probably posters around here who could have made a comment about “nigga rap” and their like or dislike of that particular style of music without incurring the wrath of the whole board. Did you notice the term I just used “nigga rap”, not “nigger music” - I’m sure the difference seems like a subtle one to you, but for many people around here (myself included) ANY use of a word which sounds phonetically the same as an historically extremely insulting term used to refer to black people needs to be highly qualified.

Even in spoken language, you’d better believe that if one of my children used a word which sounds like “nigger” the very next word out of their mouth had better be “rap” - because aside from carefully thought out questions about how the word came into use or why it’s not acceptable, or direct quotes, there simply aren’t many contexts in which the word can be used by a white person inoffensively.

It isn’t that the word itself is banned, it’s that context is EVERYTHING when using words which are generally offensive.

I could start a thread in GQ asking about the origin of the word “nigger” as a perjorative term, another in Cafe Society asking about the extensive use of the word by authors such as Toni Morrison, another in IMHO stating that I cringe at the term “nigga rap” even though I know it’s a stand alone term, and people probably wouldn’t be offended by my use of those terms, in each case they would have been used in a context where it was very obvious that there was no agenda to be furthered other than the aquisition of knowledge and understanding and the dispelling of ignorance.

I’ve stated quite often before that I don’t even like the way we have trivialised the word “Nazi” by making it an adjective we attach to anything we perceive as rigid behaviour - eg “feminazi”, “spelling Nazi”. I don’t believe for a minute that most people mean to imply any real connection between the actions of the Third Reich and people who are purists about grammar, but I find the comparison an inappropriate and insensitive one.

If you consistently post what seem to be quite racist or otherwise bigoted or inflammatory viewpoints around here, and then you insist on your “right” to use language which also has negative connotations then you are probably going to be perceived (rightly or wrongly) as “the sum of your posts”; and if the way you perceive yourself is at drastic odds with the way this community perceives you and that genuinely bothers you, then perhaps your very next thread should be one entitled “how can I do better in the future”?
