To my fellow lefties

What do you mean, what branches don’t they fall under?

The IRS is a service of the Treasury Department, which is part of the executive branch. Its head is a Cabinet level official. You might remember this from social studies.

Certainly the executive branch is separate from the other branches. And certainly it is a lot bigger than just the White House. Most of the federal government falls under this branch.

This order called for coordination of the executive branch emergency plans with those of the other two branches. Now we know from our Cold War history that for many years a bunker was maintained under the Greenbriar resort exclusively for the relocation of the legislative branch in case of nuclear war or other serious emergency. That particular bunker is no longer used, but presumably other plans for the legislative branch are in place.

Wouldn’t you assume that the executive branch knows where the legislative branch bunker is, and what the communications protocols are between the two? Seems to me like that would make sense, and that would be the sort of coordination that would be worked out.

Wow, that’s interesting. I’d love to see links to those posts where you said stuff like “Gee, I think Bush is being reasonable here. Let’s give him a chance.”

Your being such a good-hearted, trusting guy though, such comments wouldn’t surprise me.

I greatly admired his stance against the dread scourge of human-animal hybrid research, standing foursquare against the amassed force of the human-animal hybrid lobby, and in brave defiance of their wrath. And I was briefly enamored of his determination to go to Mars in the very near future, but was disappointed to learn he didn’t mean himself, personally. I was soooo looking forward to that!

Great OP, priceguy. elucidator, have you ever heard the one about being a prostitute and the having the equipment? Give it a rest.

Thanks for your good wishes, Shodan.

You’re right about my handling it wrong. I discussed this with my doctor a couple of days ago, and I’m learning to be frank about my vision problem rather than trying to hide it.

I gave xtisme a really hard time, in part because I didn’t want to face my temporary handicap. I feel awful about that. :smack:

My last post in that thread, though, in which I slagged on the Unification Church’s Washington Times, was a different matter. Though your cite did show that Carter authorized the wiretaps in question, the FISA was not yet in effect. The cite said so. So, the Carter taps were like Nixon’s, not like Bush’s, as near as I could tell.

I drop in on Media Matters for America now and then. They’re a news media watch group. The web site describes them as “progressive,” so they are openly liberal. Anyway, some months ago, when this Bush tap thing unfolded, the WT, several Fox News shows, and a fistful of pundits identically misquoted statements from the Clinton and Carter regimes. The statements appeared to support the Bush taps. However, all these sources left out the part about in accordance with the FISA.

My question in that last post was sincere. What constitutes a cite from a mainstream source? I get tripped up on that concept.

I didn’t really mind…I was mostly fighting (as usual) with Hentor anyway. At any rate, no worries…I hope you feel better.

I always thought that they needed an “eating popcorn” smilie. Good for the political and religion discussions on this board… heh.

Welcome to the SDMB! Bite me.

The GD thread giving rise to this Pit thread has been locked. I might start a new one on the same topic if I perceive sufficient Dopular demand.

Think about the definition of insanity before you do.

Just say ‘no!’ BG…for the sake of the gods. :stuck_out_tongue:

And if you do, for Heaven’s Sake, don’t drag poor XT in again, he’s had enough!

Great OP, Priceguy.

As someone said in the GD thread (and as others have said before in response to similar threads), these poorly-reasoned and knee-jerk leftie posts actually make it tougher for someone to accept the Left’s point of view.

If CREEPSCAB (the Committee of Republicans Scheming to Arrange a Bush Empire) really did exist, they’d have Brainglutton on retainer.

By the way, it is also sad that so many find it prophylactically necesssary to disclaim pro-Bush views in order to disagree with Brainglutton and his allies. Understandable (I’ve done it too), but sad.

What, do you get paid by the word?

If only!

And, you know, its just this kind of attitude which is why you guys never win any elections! Just trying to help you out, here.

I have a very delicate nature after all…

I’m fairly sure that the Democrats who won Republican seats this past fall were not running on a platform of: OMFG Bush wants to be a dictator The sky is falling OMFG, but I could, of course, be mistaken.

I love this one. It’s been probably about 6 weeks since I heard it.

How about this? Why not have your own point of view, chosen for its merits and not just to spite someone else? It’s more rewarding and fulfilling, and makes one look like less of a puss. If you develop an independent way of thinking and then choose the party that is closer to that, we might end up with better leaders.

I haven’t heard the one about the prostitute and the having the equipment. It does seem that we have a new tool around here, though.
