To Save A Show: Ghost Whisperer

(Posted with MOD permission)

People, I’d like to ask a very big favor of you all. There is a TV show that I have loved watching for the past 5 years that has been taken off the air and I really need help getting it back.

Yes, its Ghost Whisperer.

I’ll preface this by saying that there really is no replacement for this show; its unique. Its the only show I can think of off hand that you really can’t just start in the middle to get the full effect. Each show slowly builds to an emotional release at the very end in a way that is nearly flawless. Yes, I’m a fan, but you’ve probably seen the show yourself and know what I’m talking about (and if you haven’t you really should).

Anyway, for whatever reason, CBS ended production and then ABC bought the rights. Thing is, ABC isn’t doing anything with it so I’m not sure if this is spoiler-ball for them to protect their line up.
Personally, I think thats foolish; you make the production and you take the money you make off of it. There’s a lot of money to be made off it too:

“ABC, Her name is Melinda. She might be like you, except she can win her Friday night time slot week after week…”

The thing is, there really isn’t a show out there of its like or that fills its niche and some of us really want them to bring it back. We’ve put together a petition and with mod permission, I’m posting it here.

The petition doesn’t ask for any more information than you would be comfortable giving and it really would let TV people know what you want to see. It only takes a minute, it means a lot.
If you ever wanted a voice in what you see on TV, Please Step Up. Only YOU can save this show.

Thank You.

Nothing against your show, but I can assure you it’s not the only show you can’t start in the middle without missing the effect. Rent The Wire and get back to me.

This is really about no longer having Jennifer Love Hewitt’s breasts on prime-time television, isn’t it?

It’s time for her and them to appear in R-rated films where, to maintain the integrity of the film, she finally lets them loose on the big screen.

Please - before it’s too late!!!

No disrespect intended, but I am gonna have to decline.

We do not even cable or satellite television in our house, and even with a lack of other options, we cannot bring ourselves to watch that particular show.

The ratings were never that strong for GW. Sure, it may have done well in its time slot but on a Friday night, that’s like being the world’s tallest dwarf. Friday night is typically where shows go to die since most people in the biggest target demographics are out of the house, not staying in to watch TV.

You know, thats really not fair. She’s a very talented actress and director. And her team produces amazing work.
Well, I knew posting this would catch me a beatin’, but if even a few of you would sign, I’d really appreciate it…

Well, good luck, I guess, but seen it and I’m not a fan.

Sorry…I couldn’t resist the opportunity to make that joke. I personally don’t really care, since I don’t watch much TV, but as a favor, I’ll go sign.

While I can sympathize as most of my favorite shows have been canceled, these petitions never work. It doesn’t matter how many people sign, the ratings have already spoken.

Sure, once in a blue moon you’ll get something like Family Guy to come back, but it’s almost never due to the petition.

Now if you are petitioning to get the show moved to HBO, then I’ll sign. Twice.

Co-executive producer is James Van Praagh.

That’s going to be a tough sell to some dopers. As for me, I have no desire to put any money in his pocket.

didn’t they save Chuck by raiding one of its major sponsor, Subway?

ALL shows are eventually cancelled ( except wrestling I guess ), this one is long overdue.

My wife is a big fan of the show, and I generally enjoyed it, so…
I’ve signed the petition and forwarded a link to my wife. Good luck.

As it happens, they were watching The Ghost Whisperer on Family Guy recently. (video, borderline NSFW)

I signed the petition. The show isn’t anything particularly special, but it entertains us for an hour when we are collapsed on the couch on a Friday night when there isn’t anything much on to watch (damning with faint praise, I know, but the show is better than we though it would be). I just wish they hadn’t brought the stupid kid onto the show.

Well, almost never. Star Trek: TOS was nearly canceled after its second season, but renewed by NBC after a massive letter-writing campaign by its fans. The third season was put in the Friday Night death slot, however, and many of the scripts were weak and the episodes not very well-received. It eventually was canceled for good.

And Jericho was revived for a seven episode half-season after fan sent in millions of emails and 20 tons of peanuts to CBS in a reference to character Jake Green’s quotation of “Nuts!”

However, yes, these exceptions not withstanding, most petitions aren’t very effective.

Well, the OP did talk about slowly building to an almost flawless release!

I used to think the same thing about Charmed (both shows I’d watch with the Mute on). :stuck_out_tongue:

sigh

You know, if she had an average body, a wart on her nose, and a voice that was boring, I’d still watch her. She has this spark of energy that just defies description and just draws my attention.
And she manages to make the people around her act better than they would other wise.

(I won’t even get into my suspicions that she has used her influence to get a great number stars of former shows, who hadn’t gotten air-time in recent years, to be guest stars on her show just so they could stand on their marks once again with their heads held high.
In my book, she’s pretty much the female Zorro of Hollywood, only hiding behind sparkling eyes and a dazzling smile instead of a mask.)

A talented actress? Really? To me, she only emotion that she ever shows is “confused”. I have no idea about her directing abilitites.

My wife OTOH loves the show so I’ll sign the petition to make her happy.
