Canceled: Cold Case, Numbers, Ghost Whisperer, Old Christene And More

Sorry to only be the bearer of bad news for some of these shows, but here is the link to the Hollywood Reporter article announcing the cancellation of those shows, plus a few more.

The article hints that Ghost Whisperers and Old Christine have a shot at moving to ABC, but have been canceled by CBS at this point.

The interesting thing is CBS has for years and years been trying to establish a Wednesday night comedy block. This goes all the way to “The Nanny” and even a bit before. Nothing does terribly well for CBS on Wednesday. “The Nanny” was only saved 'cause in the summer reruns it was moved to Monday. “The King of Queens” probably did the best for CBS on Mondays

So it’ll be interesting to see if CBS moves other comedies to Wednesday to keep trying or just give up and program something else besides comedy.

“Christine” will be hurt 'cause it only has 88 episodes and 100 episodes is the desireable number for a run in (rerun) syndication.

*Cold Case *was good until they started a running back story; you could watch the episodes as “one offs” before.

*Ghost Whisperer *lost all credibility not only when they killed the husband, but also when they moved the story five years ahead in order to age the kid. Stupid idea, and it turned off a lot of viewers.

I always found Numbers to be boring, and *Old Christine *not that funny. So sue me.

Ooh I’m just happy that they picked up Medium for next season – that’s the only CBS show I watch.

Kinda interesting that they developed Ghost Whisperer, then brought Medium (with a very similar premise) over from NBC, only now to cancel their own Ghost Whisperer.

Most of those shows had probably run their course. I will be annoyed if ABC picks up Breast Whisperer after cancelling some other shows I liked, Pushing Daisies last year and Flash Forward this year.

I used to watch Whisperer but every show was the same. Ghost shows up and scares her (you think she’d be used to them), she helps settle some issue for them then tells them to get lost (crossover). She was always very insistent that they crossover and would get very annoyed when they wouldn’t, I always wondered if she got some sort of kick-back for all the souls she sent over to the other side.

It’s about a psychic who sees ghosts. How is credibility relevant?

Isn’t Old Christine the show that they kept trying to convince us all was a hit? I almost fell for that propaganda! I watched a whole show, thinking it was a big hit or something. Got to the end of it and felt duped.

I can’t stand Old Christine. This show should end with Christine being declared mentally incompetant and confined to a group home. Oh, and deport Barb for being an illegal immigrant who gained citizenship via fraud.

I actually liked Ghost Whisperer more than Medium. Medium is too convenient; there’s no real detective work involved, because she always just dreams whatever scene is necessary to solve the mystery.

I’ve only seen the first couple seasons of Medium and some random episodes of The Ghost Whisperer, so maybe things changed, but while they have similar premises, they are vastly different in tone and style. I really, really liked Medium, which I found clever and occasionally extremely creepy and really, really hated The Ghost Whisperer, which is just ridiculous and sappy.

And here I thought Christine was a mild hit, but then I certainly wasn’t making it appointment TV. I used to watch Medium, but I just kind of gave up on it after a while.

I guess CBS now has room on the schedule for CSI: Sarrasota.

I adore Medium, gruesome as it sometimes is, and I am thrilled it escaped the chopping block. When it finishes its run, it will be one of the very few shows I will buy on DVD. The family strikes me as such a ‘real family’, and the kids are often hilarious. It (Medium) was paired up with Ghost Whisperer, but I could never get into that as I found Jennifer Love Hewitt too annoying for words and was only notable for her boobs.

With “Christine” cancelled, that’s a double blow for Wanda Sykes who saw her talk show cancelled as well

I am a big fan of SitComs so I try them all. I just couldn’t enjoy Old Christine. I almost never laughed and took it off of my record list.

I enjoyed the first couple of seasons of Medium but eventually grew tired of it. Though I see on IMDb that 113 episodes have aired so far. That means what…263 times Patricia Arquette has had to try and do a new take on the “startled awake” move?

There was a thread in CS a few months ago about drama shows having so few episodes, or going on hiatus for long periods, or getting dumped in favor of talk shows, and somebody mentioned that the problem is that hour-format drama shows cost a lot more produce than, say, talk shows or sitcoms. I guess they would be – you can’t stage the whole thing on a, well, stage; you need movie-level production values and scene shots.

They cancelled Numbers? Those fuckers, that show made learning math fun and exciting!!!

The rest of them I could care less about. Infact, I can’t believe that stupid Knocked Up show made it THIS long. Old Christine was the exact same joke every single episode, so I don’t get how they got 5 years out of it. Medium was a show that had a great pilot, but then got retooled into something stupid. Thank GOD they finally axed Gary Unmarried - that show made According to Jim look like high brow humor.
