To select SDMB Cheatriots' Defenders

I suspect that there are, in general, four types of people (well, five) with respect to this subject. Patriots fans who disagree with the report/importance of the incident/whatever, Patriots fans who acknowledge wrongdoing, non-Patriots fans who are generally indifferent/don’t think it’s a big deal/disagree with the report, and non-Patriots fans who are to some degree angered by the incident. Of those four groups, I would expect the first and last to expend the most energy and time talking about it, while the middle two might make some commentary, and then get on with other things. It doesn’t surprise me that the first group of Patriots fans are the ones making the most noise a week later.

I’m probably an outlier because I’m trying to avoid housework.

ETA: Oh, the fifth would be people who don’t give a shit about football, or sports, or whatever. I don’t expect them to say anything.

I haven’t seen him in months. Maybe I should, he sounds like he’s still a very intelligent and witty guy.
Now tell us, how do Pittsburgh fans tell the little kiddies how they can cheer for a rapist as *their *quarterback? Does it require a careful explanation that the evidence against Roethlisberger was only “more probable than not”, and not “beyond a reasonable doubt”, since it was in court and not the NFL? How much does it require explaining rape too? How well do the children understand it? Have you even been involved in such a conversation, either as the parent or (more likely) the child?

I’d wouldn’t call “fuck him right in the dimple” an intelligent or witty phrase.

A couple more completely unscientific sample groups.

My Facebook newfeed, which includes a fair number of Patriots fans (me having grown up in New Hampshire) has included thus far two people who have made any comment on “Deflategate”. One posted Elvis’s favorite link. The other linked two articles: one on Kraft’s response, and the other an opinion piece on the severity of the accusation for the NYT (far more nuanced than the “but mom, everyone else is doing it!” site). Other than that, no one has mentioned anything.

And so far the only other live Pats fan I’ve talked to about this (I live in St. Louis, so there aren’t a whole lot of them around; my wife’s cousin is marrying a Masshole, and I talked very briefly to his brother tonight) had this to say: “I expected him to get two games”. That’s it. Not a very passionate rebuttal of the charges.

On the whole, I suspect most Pats fans believe that the report is fairly accurate, and are mostly silent because, well, what do you expect them to say? The desperate ones are just LOUD.

My deepest condolences.

Fair enough. I suspect this is probably true. On the other hand, even rational Boston sports fans express the opinion that Boston sports fans are assholes. My best friend from grad school was born, raised and still lives in a north Boston neighborhood. He often expresses shame at the antics of his compatriots.

The Pats are firing back…

The Wells Report in Context

Apparently, they are claiming that McNally called himself “the deflator” because… he was trying to lose weight!

What fucking jokes these people are!

The best part is that they repeatedly claim Jastremski didn’t do anything wrong, but never mention that they (not the league) suspended him indefinitely without pay.

I got a kick out of the title of this article:

“The Patriots Made a Truther Website About the Wells Report”

Indeed. I was curious how they would explain the “Fuck tom” “the only thing deflating on Sunday is his passer rating” texts. They don’t even bother.

Eh, they decided to fight this thing long ago. Might as well go all in.

Jimmy Fallon says Brady could get the suspension reduced if he commits a *real *crime.

Well that’s a scathing rebuttal if I ever saw one.

That’s what Goodell’s record indicates, doesn’t it?

Please note that Fallon was joking. It’s what he does. For a living. A very well paid living at that. There was even a smilie to help emphasize what it was. So you know. In case there’s a next time you’re confused.

I hope the doubling down and Iraqi-Information-Minister level defenses work against them, and the league gets all the more hard-assed on them.

Fucking show us the respect to know that we know you’re lying, assholes.

It’s all going to court, you can be sure of it, not the one of Public Opinion anymore. Kraft and Brady have lawyered up, hard, already. That all does require some secrecy at this point. The NFL under Goodell has a pretty miserable legal record, as you may know.

Seriously? I don’t think it’s remarkable at all. He’s embarrassed himself and continues to do so with each post.

He doesn’t care, though. He is getting a chubby with all of the attention. He is all in, just like Tommy, Billy and Mr. Powder Blue and White Collar ™.

Want to drive him crazy? Don’t quote him while responding in this (or hell, ANY) thread. He won’t be able to handle it. Attention is what drives him.

His behavior reminds me a lot of my mother-in-law. She is a narcissistic sociopath.

How else can you explain the time he has spent, the number of posts, the coverage of the entire day? He is posting all day, every day, like a one-person Patriot apologist. Who could possibly have the time and/or energy to do this?

Take a look at what you’re making Steelers fans/apologists look like here, for *just *a moment, okay? Do yourself a solid.

I think TaylorSw1ft is cracking under the strain! Sometimes septuagenarians lose some of their faculties and struggle during periods of stress.

I did a solid. While readlng your post. I gave it the attention it required…

Crawl back under your bridge now.

Oh, I get it. Comedians make jokes. And that totally bolsters your argument.
