Narc? dude, the pothead from my 1989, 9th grade high school class just called. he wants his insult back.
In the early 70’s, when I was about 8 or so, I remember my parents doing some pretty illegal shit. They were paranoid about it too. They’d only do it late in the evening when I went to bed and they would draw the blinds and made sure to keep it very quiet. Sometimes they’d have a couple of friends over but they were very trusted and close friends.
Know what it was?
The were listening to a broadcast of “Voice of America” on shortwave radio in the good old CCCP. People went to jail for that kind of stuff. The gulag too.
Neighbours were encouraged to squeel on subversive “illegal” activity.
My parents were a threat and danger to society and the state.
Girls, girls… you’re both pretty.
Good lord, has this really devolved into a “discussion” of whether pot smokers or beer drinkers are morally superior?
Also, it **is ** a college dorm. Is anyone really convinced that the cops are going to raid the entire place, or that her roomates are going to set up a meth lab in there? A little less hysteria, people. Reefer Madness was not a documentary.
So? The fact that some laws are unjust does not mean that all laws are unjust. Similarly, the fact that some illicit activities are harmless does not mean that all illicit activity is harmless.
There’s no law that says she shouldn’t narc them out, either. Your objection is both irrelevant and self-refuting.
Damn, when I was in college we couldn’t even afford decent alcohol, let alone drugs…
If she puts these guys in the penal system because they party too hardy and never call afterwards, they will not thank her. It’s not that she’s losing friends; it’s that she’s acquiring enemies. The days when cops took away your pot* and elbowed you in the solar plexus are long since over. monica should look into mandatory sentencing laws.
*And then they went back to the station and smoked it up. You know they did, man.
Fair enough. Show me the harm done in this case. Who’s the victim exactly?
Alcohol isn’t harmless. If these guys were abusing alcohol and not causing anyone any harm or putting people in danger (which, according to the OP they are not) nobody would be suggesting calling the cops on them.
What is it about a little illegal substance that causes some people to become knee jerk alarmists and whistle blowers? Are we really becoming a nanny state?
(FTR, I’m not now nor have ever been a drug user or abuser of any substance other than a little too much caffein on some days.)
Yep, happens all the time. Some little old lady calls the cops and says, “there’s a large building with hundreds of college students living in it, coming and going at strange hours, sounding like they’re having sex, and possibly even smelling like drugs. Do you think it could be an opium den of some sorts?”
Next thing you know, some detective is putting dozens of tiny red pens onto a map and being like, “holy crap!”
Next thing you know, hundreds of local cops, ATF, FBI, and Colorado State Patrol agents surround the place and bust down the doors, turning over the entire place and finding, holy-shit, drugs on college freshmen! Who would have know that these houses of moral depravity and illegal activity could penetrate our community? The entire dorm goes to prison.
Yep, just like that.
I swear to god, have you even been an undergrad? If so, how long ago was that? And where? Liberty University?
Well, alcohol is an illegal substance for these guys…
threemae, I almost choked on my linguine with clam sauce. That was funny. Your post, I mean, not my almost choking.
The statement I was responding to was “If I were in monica’s shoes, you’re damn right I would report them. Possessing and using drugs like cocaine is illegal. Just because you don’t agree with the law doesn’t mean you can ignore it.” Your statement is asinine. You wanna be a self-righteous tattletale, have at it. The unspoken law of “don’t be an asshole” trumps your Reaganesque, Gladys-Kravitz-School-of-Buttinski-Law-Enforcement-Program any day of the week.
Well, Bricker probably knows this far better than any of us, but I did find this :
That’s just what we need. Millions of citizens behind bars for victimless crimes, and the country being run by a bunch of busybodies. Some people really need to get a hobby.
I’ve got two words for you: Civil Disobedience.
I would definitely prefer a nation chock full of dope smokers and coke snorters who keep to themselves, over a nation of people spying on each other and researching law merely to identify what opportunities exist to rat out the people around them for crimes against the state.
If you think that is the path to true security and freedom, please leave the USA at once.
Well fuckin’ told.
Just wanted to bold the operative words. Of course, that applies to Satan worship, sexual relations with the farm animals, and/or watching Benny Hill marathons.
Can I get an Amen?!
- and I’d ask that they leave the human race, not just the USA.
Maybe if you want to spend your whole life stoned or high, YOU should leave the USA and quit dragging the rest of society down!
Honey, are you serious, or is this like performance art?
