As a few of you know, I am taking the Bar Exam in late February. Tomorrow my Bar review class, “BarBri,” starts. The next two months of my life are probably going to be pretty miserable, full of these intensive classes and reading outlines and studying notes and drilling with practice questions from old exams during all my free time. I was not the greatest law student in the world, so I’ll have to work extra hard to learn everything in the next two months that I didn’t learn that well in the last three years.
I’ve had a lot of free time lately since I don’t have a job yet, but that’s all about to abruptly change. I’m going to end up “going dark,” cutting down on socializing with friends, cutting out TV and movies (unless I’m jogging on the treadmill), and certainly spending a lot less time online. I will still check my e-mail daily and I’ll be watching the SDMBs, even if my posting dwindles to zero. I hope this place continues to be a fun community where people can talk about anything and fight ignorance, and I hope all of you have more fun in January and February than I will.
Wish me luck, because I’m going to need it. I’ll miss chiming in on conversations here (mainly on Cafe Society), but at least I won’t be too terribly far (and I’m way too dependent on e-mail to cut that out!). My best to everyone in the New Year, and Godspeed!
As soon as I read this thread title, I heard Eddie Murphy in Trading Spaces saying “Once you go black, you won’t go back!” I don’t want to know what that says about me…
Best of luck with your preparations. We’ll still be here waiting for your triumphant return!
Don’t worry about this at all. I took BarBri in 2001. It has very little to do with law school (unless you went to a school that completely teaches for the Bar, but that is considered tacky these days).
Just pay attention and pace yourself. Don’t try to do everything BarBri tells you to during the first few weeks – you’ll just burn out.
And for God’s sakes, the other people in your class will be at all different levels! So don’t let the slackers put you too much at ease, and don’t let the freaks make you feel you aren’t studying hard enough.
Remember to sleep and eat adequately. The prep period leading up to the February bar is notorious for grinding students into a fine dust, snorting them up and then sneezing them out in a lump of cold and/or flu virus ridden muck. Take good care of yourself and don’t freak out, and do let us know how it goes.
Just don’t talk to anyone between questions when you take the Bar. We had breaks between every essay question, and I was wandering around in shock after the first one, and I heard someone say something about what a hard Corporations question that was, and I immediately thought, “CORPORATIONS!! HOLY SH*T, I THOUGH IT WAS AGENCY AND PARTNERSHIP!!! MY LIFE IS OVER!!!” Turned out it was an A&P question. Oh, and P.S., I passed. Woohoo!
Good luck, break a leg, etc. And take those annoying practice multi-state tests. They are actually pretty helpful to get you into the multi-state mindset. And eat lots pf junk food. I ate Dove Bars for breakfast while I was studying!
