Please explain why you have not complained with the exact same intensity about several other threads on this Board which were far more explicit and outright gross. Like the TMI thread, for example?
If you do not complain with the exact same intensity about other sexually explicit threads, than you are a hypocrite, and this was obviously a personal attack on me. So…I await your explaination. If you are brave enough.
Note that I do not disagree with the SDMB Staff on this issue in any way, shape, or form. They have the right and and imperative to act as they see fit in this case, and all others. I support JillGat and Eutychus, and their actions, 110%. What concerns me is why this mystery person has not been brave enough to show their face, and why they have singled my thread out.
And I believe there is precedent for “calling someone out” in matters like this, so I am certain that I have not knowingly violated protocol by demanding they come forth. Nothing compells the mystery person to get a Strap-On Porta-Spine[sup]TM[/sup] and post here. And if they are unable to that, then this thread will simply drop off the first page in a day.
I haven’t read the piece in question, so I can’t comment on it, but I will say that if it offended me, I would have either ignored it or remarked on it.
Frankly, I’m surprised that an anonymous complaint would carry any weight here. We’re a pretty contentious and confrontational bunch here, and a “behind the scenes” gripe seems out of character.
But, then again, there may be other forces at work here, and I’m not one to second guess a mod’s decision.
A poster may have very valid reasons NOT to seek confrontation, Anthracite.
What if they really like you, but DID take offense to this particular thread? What if they just don’t LIKE big board-wide confrontations, and chose to inform the moderators of their dismay?
You state you agree with the actions of the Administration 110%. In other words, you agree your thread may have been a tad over the top, right?
So then, why see it as a personal attack? You posted something that was possibly offensive. Someone DID take offense, and alerted us before we stepped in on our own behalf. Had they not done that, chances are your thread would have been hidden anyway.
I guess I really don’t see why you would be interested in getting this “mystery person” to step forward. If they didn’t initially, they certainly won’t NOW, with the Pit Spotlight firmly directed at them.
In all honesty: why didn’t you think about that an hour ago?
We usually grant the OP’s request when they ask for a thread to be closed. But that always takes place when a discussion has gone out of hand, for example. You can’t just post something, regret it five minutes later, and then expect the Staff will cover your ass, Anthracite.
Yes, it obviously was, although I did not know that at the time I posted it. Do I get any credit for admitting that?
If your opinion is that they won’t, then what good really is served by keeping this open? It doesn’t hurt me if it’s open, but it does lead to more unnecessary Board strife. Yes, I started it, but keeping it open for no good reason seems odd.

And seriously - are you really comparing my OP with Opal’s? You’re really trying to compare a blatant attack on a Moderator and the Board with my stern request that a person come forward and confront me about a story? She got in over her head flaming you. I haven’t flamed anyone yet, and want to try to make sure it doesn’t happen. There is a profound difference, surely you must admit.
My interpretation is that Senor Coldfire was referring to the side conversation/hijack about posters quickly requesting that their thread be closed, rather than the issue that Opal started with. He may not have been attempting to draw any parallel between her OP and yours.
The linked thread is the first instance that came to mind when I saw your request to close this one. The similarity ends there. I meant to illustrate that it might be useful to think before one posts.
