Toast and nausea

I’ve looked and can’t find the “why” of this. It’s fairly common knowledge that if you’re feeling a bit unwell in the digestive department, that you should nibble on something like toast or crackers. Now, I understand that having a little bit of something in the stomach gives it something to do and may ease the nausea. But why toast? Why not bread? Other than the former being dried out, they are the same thing, and I would think would be equally easy to digest. There must be some facts I’m missing about how the stomach works on them.

I don’t think there’s really a difference between the two, except that toast (or crackers) is something people are likely to eat, while plain bread just doesn’t sound as appetizing.

Complete WAG but wouldn’t toast be more “thirsty” than bread and in that case it would soak up more of the nasty stomach juices that are trying to come back up the wrong way?

The “BRAT” diet is often recommended for upset stomachs and stands for Bananas, Rice, Applesauce, and Toast. The goal seems to be bland foods.
