Today, I will vote for the very first time. Whee!!

This will be the first general election I’ve ever voted in, as I was 17 years, 353 days old in 2004, and so missed my chance to vote against Bush and senator Jim Bunning by less than two weeks. But there’s no stopping me now! I voted in the primary and I’m doing it again today, dammit!

Of course, my first ballot might be the least exciting in the country: No senatorial race, no gubernatorial race, and an uncontested House race. Riveting. But there seems to be a close race for county coroner, and the neighborhood by the new middle school is looking to be quite the swing district. It’s one of the hot races, so keep your eyes open. Unfortunately, I have no idea what makes one a good coroner or why it’s even an elected position, but I’m being entrusted with this decisison.

[Kent Brockman]I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: democracy can’t work.[/KB]

So, any other voting virgins being deflowered today?

Welcome to the democratic process! You have earned the right to complain about your elected officials with the rest of us. Enjoy!

Congratulations, Mayo! And as one American citizen to another, thank you. I only wish there were more people your age (or any age) who were as enthusiastic and eager to exercise their privilege and perform their duty.

And for those of you who go “They’re all slimy, lying politicians, so why bother?” I say that you owe every citizen of this nation present and past this duty, and that it’s a lousy excuse. If nothing else, there is always someone to vote against. And with luck, you may actually find someone worth voting for.

Thanks again, Mayo!

Congratulations, Mayo!

I remember the first time I ever voted. It was for Ross Perot. Hopefully, you’re a little smarter than I was at that age.

I also voted in my first general election today, though I missed 2004 by rather more than two weeks. I voted in the primary in May, and I voted for a Senator (Webb), a representative, against three constitutional amendments (including one to ban gay marriage), and for one bond and against another.

So, yeah, I get one close race.

Awesome! I was freshly 18 for the 2004 Presidential elections and wore my I Voted sticker with pride. I was so excited I was finally old enough to vote - my dorm room door was covered in political posters and information.

I’m in MO so I definitely got out and voted today - Claire McCaskill may not be that great but Jim Talent is an ass and he needs to get out.

You even voted against the amendment to get rid of the part of the constitution the courts found unconstitutional?
