Today is a snowday :(

It started to snow last night. The wind was blowing at a pretty good rate. I knew there was a possibility that school would be delayed by two hours this morning. Fine, I can deal with that. Give the kids a chance to sleep in, have a good breakfast and spend some time together. All in all, not a bad way to start of the morning.
They just CANCELLED school.

I had plans today. Plans in which I can not have any kids at home. I was going to start to wrap presents and assemble the big items and put them in the basement. Now I can not do this. I have presents scattered everywhere. In our camper, in the trunk of my car, in my bedroom closet, in the closet off the kitchen, and in the curio cabinet. AGHHHH, I have few days off between now and Christmas. I had the whole day planned out. Take kids to school, come home, put on some upbeat music and start with the big gifts. I’d rather have the little ones left over to do on Christmas Eve, if I have to wrap at all on Christmas Eve.
New plan for today. Have the kids clean up their rooms, do a few loads of laundry and go to work early. One of our wait staff has called in due to the snow. (She doesn’t drive in the snow.) While at work, I am going to see if someone will cover some of my hours for this coming weekend. I have covered a lot of hours for people in the last 3 weeks. Hopefully, then I can get some wrapping done.

Your plan for snow day doesn’t involve playing in the snow at some point?!

It’s too cold out.
Part of the reason for school being cancelled is because of the strong winds. Being outside in cold weather is one thing, being outside with wind chill factors that can be dangerous is another.

Iowa is colder than Minnesota today?

It’s not too cold out. Bundle up, wear a hat, scarf, mittens, snowpants, etc. Playing in the snow on snow days is what childhood memories are all about.

Really really strong winds today, NurseCarmen, it’s not so much the temp today, but the kind of wind that smacks you in the face the minute you open the door to go outside, takes your breath away, makes your eyes water. We live out in the middle of nowhere with no wind breaks around us, besides the house. Which is not where the good drifts are.
We did play outside last snow storm. I may let them go out later this afternoon to get the mail and wonder through all the snow drifts on the way there and back.
They have been making paper snowflakes and drawing gifts for everyone today. Heck, I even got the glitter and glue out for them. We are going to snuggle up and watch a Christmas movie while I fold laundry.
