today is the best day

Go Olives! Many, many congratulations.

No, sadly, my uncle is very poor and so is the rest of my family. I am going to do everything I can to get grants and scholarships, and the rest I will take out in loans. Fortunately I escaped undergrad virtually unscathed. Since my husband is a Ph.D student, he also has virtually no loans to deal with either. I have already established a plan for repaying the loans within 5 years of graduation, even if, worse case scenario, I end up having to finance everything with loans. It means we won’t be homeowners for a while, but I’m happy as a clam living in an apartment, and we’re in no hurry to live the high life. Or better said, we already do live the high life, and are aware it doesn’t require a lot of money.

OMG, YOU ROCK! Way to go, olives!

Now I’ll go read the thread.

Well Done you!!
Now, follow these instructions:

  1. Raise your right hand.
  2. Put it on your left shoulderblade.

High five!

You never know what kind of awesome is right around that corner. Sometimes awesome is like a puma that jumps out of a tree to ambush you and sink its sharp teeth into your neck. Today… that puma just bit your throat out. Congrats!

(Apologies, I like really bizarre analogies.)

Congrats!

I know it can be a pain waiting, I’ve got a friend waiting to hear back from several schools right now, and I see how frazzled she can get at times. Good luck!

wtg!

If you’d like any guidance with commuting issues, etc. lmk. I went to school there, lived in the area for many years, have some subtle points about Morningside Heights to pass along, maybe…

Great news–just bask in it for a while.

Congratulations!! You don’t know me, but I have read a lot of your threads over the years and I’m so happy for you. It really is the greatest feeling in the world, isn’t it?

I will most likely be applying to Columbia’s art history graduate program next year, so wish me lots of luck! I’ll need it for sure, since especially with this economy, there’s going to be no money at all for my pointless little discipline…

Yay for you!!

But yes, once basking time is over, I will have questions. Lots of questions.

Columbia? Pfft. Won’t they be disappointed when they find out you’re going to go to Penn? hopeful look

Congratulations!

Hooray!

Congratulations! From what I’ve read of your posts you have so much to bring to the field from your own background as well as your training. You’ll be a great social worker.

Congratulations!

The campus is very nice (of course, most college campuses are). It reminded me of a walled city – once you step inside, you see this open quad with a decent amount of green, right in the middle of NYC (and with an actual Revolutionary War battleground!).

I’m so happy for you, and so glad that someone as special as you gets to make a difference in the world. Bask!

Congrats!

I’m really, really happy for you! What an accomplishment!!

Yay! Way to go!!!

I took a stroll through the Columbia campus last fall when I visited NYC, since it wasn’t far from our hotel. It’s very very nice.

It reminds me of the University here in Toronto, in that it’s both completely integrated into the city and yet a little bit separate from it at the same time. And the architecture is gorgeous.

Now I’m all wistful for university. Sigh. Lucky, lucky you.

Congratulations and good luck!
