Here’s a link to the Doonesbury site. The cartoon on the main page has two guys hearing a gun shot and ducking, then talking about cyanide and hell. It doesn’t seem obviously connected to current events, to me.
And he has been setting up the Duke/ Deposed Dictator of Berserkistan Odd Couple storyline for months. I vote for coincidence and a very slight simularity to breaking news stories.
It would have been impossible to get a new comic out in the time frame involved. Newspapers set the comic pages early (since they don’t change), so it would have been put to bed long before any announcement had been made (possibly days before). The logistics of getting the new strip to the papers, let alone putting it in them, made it impossible.
Even changing the Internet page would have been difficult, even assuming Trudeau had the strip ready. And that would mean a different strip online and in the papers.
Also, that’s not Bin Ladin. The only connection is that it involves a raid (perhaps – the “pop” sound could be something else).
I haven’t read Doonesbury for quite awhile but it seems like a jumpy Duke is something of a running gag
Yeah I was reading too much into it. I misread Monday’s strip and thought their middle eastern dictator character got shot.
