Yep, not Ancalagon. Much more recent than that.
Well, Strider, of course. Thorongil, when he was incognito in Gondor. Bilbo refers to him as “the Dunadan”.
D’oh. King Elessar, of course.
There’s probably no answer to this, so I won’t number it: when listing his name, Gandalf says “to the East I go not.” Why not?
IMO: The West was his assignment. The East was assigned to the two Blue Wizards.
just answering at random here.

- Who was the first elf to love a mortal? I’m gonna go ahead and give the right answer even tho I had to look it up, and hope Arien forgives me. Finrod and Andreth from HOMES X, “Morgoth’s Ring” “Athrabeth Finrod ah Andreth”.
- Nan Dungortheb

- Who was Gil-galad’s father? [out of order becausing of a numbering anomaly]
- Fingon sired Erenion Gil-Galad per the canon, tho JRRT was re-thinking that pedigree, and at one point considered having Orodreth be his father. Among others.
- Elendil’s heir (IMHO) would be both the king of Arnor, and the high king over both Arnor and Gondor, to whom all faithful Edain owed their allegience.
In point of fact, only 2 people achieved this: Isildur and Aragorn II.
- 5+ other names for Aragorn II: Estel, Strider, Thorongil, Elfstone, Elessar, Longshanks, Trotter, [del]The Walking Dude[/del]
I really hate to correct you, but it’s not Finrod! (Although he did love her as a friend). It was his younger brother, Aegnor, whose death is pretty much the only time he is mentioned in the Silmarillion. Andreth is a woman from the House of Beor. They fell in love but Aegnor wimped out, for various reasons, and they never wed. He died soon later, “soon” meaning about 60-70 years after they met. Also apparently Aegnor had spiky, blond hair, although I think Tolkien phrased it something like “his locks rose from his head like flames.”
Thanks for that helpful post, NoCoolUserName!
<<sigh>>
You’re right. I just scanned the table of contents and saw “Athrabeth Finrod ah Andreth”, and forgot it was all about Andreth’s discussions with Finrod, about Eru and Fate and “why did your brother dump me?”

You answered all of my unanswered ones correctly, Qadgop.
I already answered that: Bombadil, Maggot, and Cotton were all Tom. So that one’s a tie, unless someone comes up with another Tom or Bill.
Gandalf the White, if I’m not mistaken.
More than a gross; that was just the number in the main tent. No number is given for the entire total, but it was darned near all of Hobbiton.
Two, I believe, plus a third that Smeagol snared for himself, rather than eat it burned and with nasty stinking herbs.
