Cirion
- Who was the first Steward of Gondor?
That was fast and Correct.
Everyone: Try to put up a question when you answer one.
Ooh, I didn’t think anyone would get that. I thought they’d think it was C.S. Lewis.
I know that Hurin (not the same as the father of Turin) founded the line of Stewards where that position was hereditary, but I don’t know if he was the first Steward or not.
I see that someone named the city, but not its rulers. The first and the founder was Finrod Felagund and after his death the crown passed to his nephew, Orodreth (not his brother , as it was written in the Silmarillion).
- What happened to the first Minas Tirith (of the first age) and what was it renamed?
- Who is the only named dwarf woman in Tolkien’s works?
It was the name for the tower on Tol Sirion, the island in the Sirion at the pass where the river entered Beleriand proper from Ard Galen. Sauron captured it for Morgoth and the island as a whole was renamed Tol-in-Gaurhoth (Island of Werewolves).
Correct, of course.
Oh, booger.
I know Minas Tirith was originally in… Beleriand, and it probably got squashed by one of Morgoth’s boys when he was being a big jerk.
But I know that Dis is the only named dwarf woman. I was just rereading the appendices.
Questions…
-
What is another name for Eregion? For bonus points, in what other fantasy work did the name Eregion appear? Hint – notice I said “fantasy work”, not “novel”.

What happened to Elrond’s parents?
-
What was the name of the first queen of Numenor’s mother, and what protofeminist advice did she give her daughter?
Hollin. I don’t know the bonus answer.
His father is a constellation and his mother is a seabird. (sounds like a Monty Python sketch, doesn’t it?)
Okay, serious answer. His father, Earendil, went sailing to Valinor to beg the Valar for aid against Morgoth. While he was at sea, the sons of Feanor attacked to get the Silmaril that his mother, Elwing, had inherited as Dior’s daughter. Elwing leapt into the sea with the Silmaril around her neck and was transformed into a seagull so she could fly to Earendil with it. Tying the jewel to his forehead, he pierced the Islands of Enchantment and reached Valinor, precipitating the War of Wrath, the final banishment of Morgoth, and the Drowning of Beleriand. Elrond and his brother Elros were captured by the sons of Feanor but were released by a guilt-stricken Maglor.
Hurin of Emyn Arnen was the first known steward, yes. I should have phrased the question better.
- Wasn’t it Erendis? And didn’t she tell her daughter not to trust men?
Oh, and Arien, while stewards were selected from the House of Hurin of Emyn Arnen, it wasn’t yet a hereditary (father to son) arrangement until later.
Star Wars.
- What month and day of the year does Frodo regain consciousness in Rivendell and have his conversation with Gandalf? (Easy for me since it’s my birthdate.)
I don’t recall, but she was the mother of Fili and Kili.
Or at least, she’s the only named Dwarvish woman that we know of. Is it ever explicitly stated that all of the Thirteen of Thorin’s company were male? I mean, it’s not like any non-Dwarf can tell the difference.

I don’t have any other answers, but here’s a couple of easy questions:

-
How did Sam’s daughter get her name?
