Tom B. and it means Eldest
Right you are! Also sometimes spelled “Aeglos,” IIRC.

Elrond…
Correct; he says the words “The Fellowship of the Ring!” at the conclusion of the Council at Rivendell.
His father name was Artanáro, his mother namewas Gil-Galad, meaning “Radiant Star”, and his title was Ereinion, meaning “offspring of kings”.
Son of Fingon in Sil, it gets complicated after that. Son of Orodreth, who in some versions was the son of Finarfin, but in others the son of Angrod.
Earwen was Galadriel’s mom. I have no idea what her name means. She was the daughter of Olwë, and thus the niece of Elu Thingol.
I was just reading on Gil-Galad last week and I went back to look at what I remembered just now.
The Silmarillion, which was published after Tolkien’s death, stated that Gil-galad was the son of Fingon, but Christopher Tolkien later said in The Peoples of Middle-earth that this was a mistake, and Gil-galad’s father was actually Orodreth. Gil-galad’s name in the chapter “Aldarion and Erendis” in the Unfinished Tales was also changed by Christopher Tolkien in order to keep consistency with the published Silmarillion.
Might help is I give her name as Eär wen. Both pieces of her name are fairly common.

She huh? :smack:

This was already asked by me and answered by you a few pages back.
Eärwen means sea-maiden.
Arien:
What characters have come back from the dead in Tolkien’s works?
Most of 225 has been answered except that no one mentioned Finrod, who is the only other elf besides Glorfindel who’s reembodiment after death has been mentioned. In the Silmarillion, it says he walks with his father in Eldamar, and it’s also alluded to in the Lay of Leithian (given in HoMe), I think.
Who’s Dior? (Hint, not a fashion designer…)

What’s the longest thread ever? Are we getting close?
I know I’ve seen threads over 1000 posts. I was in one that went to 1003.
The What if Someone else wrote the Lord of the Rings thread is extremely long as far as text goes.
