Oh Bugger. My question should be 35) What did Hurin cry out every time he slew another orc at Nirnaeth Arnoediad? (English and Elvish, please!)

  1. Arien was the Maia of the Sun.

Dang! I mean 34) Arien was the Maia of the Sun.

3 straight posts and you’re not going to take a stab at my Hobbit Lineage Questions?
Thanks on the Arien one, I looked it up to verify after I asked it. That was a fairly obsure Maia.
I can’t quite answer your question but the English version was along the lines of “Day shall return”. I wouldn’t have remember that much if we weren’t talking about Arien.

Did anyone answer questions 15 & 16
“15) Who were the leaders of the company of 500 archers from the Blackroot Vale went to the aid of Minas Tirith during the War of the Ring?
16) what was another name for Blackroot Vale ?”

If so, I can’t find it and am curious about the answers.

Isn’t Blackroot Vale the translation of Morthond, the valley that the Paths of the Dead exits into on the other side of the Dwimorberg?

Yes **QtM ** answered it back very many posts, but he only got 1 of the 3 leaders of the archers.

Sorry, a guy is bleeding in the next room, and I keep having to break away from this important stuff to do things to him. Frankly, I know Frodo’s dad is Drogo, but I can’t recall his mom’s name or Bilbo’s folks names at the moment. I’d have to meditate and see if I could call the names up, but no time.

BTW, you got the english part right. Now just translate and conjugate the elvish verb correctly.

  1. How many times did Hurin cry this phrase?
  1. Belladonna Took and Bungo Baggins
  2. Drogo and ?
  3. Sam Gamgee and Rosie Cotton

Not sure of the numbering, but here are a couple (more Hobbit lineage):

  1. Who was Barrelrider?
  2. Name the Three Remarkable Daughters of the Old Took
  3. Why are the Tooks not as respectable as the Baggins? (not a trick question)

33 is correct

  1. Barrelrider was Master Bilbo Baggins himself
36a) Belladonna Took was one but I just gave away one of my own questions.
  2. They had adventures.

**QtMs ** This one I know, The elvish I only know how to look up.
36) How many times did Hurin cry this phrase?

This I remember. It was 70 strikes for 70 Trolls while waiting for the Sun to rise again.

Ah, but it isn’t completely clear that Gothmog, who (IIRC) takes charge after the demise of the WKoA, is a Nazgul. Could be an Orc, or a Black Numenorean, or from Upper Rhun.

Teleporno?

This is correct too, isn’t it? Or do you have some “Bungo was not Bilbo’s real father” conspiracy theory action going on?? (Geez, Belladonna was a livewire and all, but I never dreamed…)

Your answers are correct:) (not completely complete on the Old Took’s daughters, natch).

And…I just used my 1,000 post, after 5 years, to question Bilbo’s parentage!

You were correct on 31, sorry I missed it somehow.
jsc1953 Gothmog is commonly accepted as the name of the #2 Ringwraith, next we’ll be arguing over Balrog Wings.

The only name ever given for any of the Ringwraiths is Khamul, the Shadow of the East, and it’s explicitly stated that he was #2 after the Witch-King. The Gothmog mentioned in Return of the King might have been a Wraith, but if so, he was #3 at best.

And Qadgop, I beat you to identifying Arien way back up in post 58.

Only by answering the question before it was asked! Showoff!!

Well, I guess there is a real debate over this:

I must admit that my opinion on the subject was primarily formed by the Encyclopedia of Arda article cited above…but from memory; I didn’t peek!

And FWIW, Peter Jackson thinks he was an orc…assuming that the orcish commander in the movie was Gothmog.

More with my bolding

In my defense, I owned and played this game a lot in the late 70’s and early 80’s. I think I see the source of my confusion.
