Tolkien trivia contest

<golf clap>

very good! Now, can you answer 50)?

I thought they spoke the common tongue, at least in the time of LOTR… Westron, or something like that.

Or are we talking about an ancestral language of the Rohirrim?

Ugh, I don’t know these language questions! I am going to guess here, though.

What Exit? answered with the english translation, but I believe the Quenya was Aure entulieva. I know aure means day, and the second half of that is probably wrong but it’s close.

Wikipedia has a lot of information on all of Tolkien’s works, and more at times than the Encyclopedia of Arda, including obscure details from the History of Middle Earth books. Not that I am encouraging anyone to cheat!

Hee…giggle…snerk…

Pretty close. Aure entuluva.

And What exit was correct with the 70 times that Hurin cried that out.

No cheating, but feel free to verify questions you are going to ask, it prevent screw-up like I had with Gothmog and the number of daughters that Elessar & Arwen had. Also great for further reading after a question is answered. :slight_smile:
**jayjay ** you got 40 to 42 correct of course. :frowning: I am a bit saw that no one noticed I snuck the creation question in at “42”.
50) What was the name of the Lake that was the old capitol of Arnor?
51) What was Aragron’s Mothers name?
52) What was his nickname as a youth?

  1. Annuminas (I hope, but I don’t think so. I think that was just the capitol)
  2. Gilraen
  3. Estel

Wait, I think 50) is Evendim! Evendum? Something like that!!

Damn, now I’m timed out for 60 seconds. bagronk!

Hah! That’s the next question:
number whatever) What does Bagronk mean, and in what language?

  1. Lake Nenuial, I believe.

My question about the first elf and mortal to fall in love is still unanswered. Come on, it’s not that obscure, is it?

Question 53) What was a tark?

  1. black speech for an edain, or man of the west.

I think you got the name of the lake right.

I can’t remember the elven man or the mortal woman without consulting my sources (ie cheating). Sorry. And check your email.

Hah! We’re both right!

And a filthy tark is a man of the west who’d fallen in a bagronk!

I still say this is Beren and Luthien, unless someone’s going to pull some obscure first draft out of HOMES and say it was Boogum and Snertz or something.

You’ll recognize the guy’s name whenyou read it, jayjay. I know what she’s talking about, but I cannot remember their names for the life of me.

It wasn’t fingon or turgon or orodreth or finrod or amrod or amras or angrod or aegnor or… oh hell. Maglor? I can’t even remember which house of the Noldor the guy was from! Damn my brain!

OK, I looked it up. How could I have forgotten the male protagonist!!! :smack: :smack:

  1. was Lake Evendim. A large and Beautiful Lake. (last part is my own two bits not canon)
    The First Elf and Mortal to fall in love were possible Tuor and Idril but I really don’t remember for sure.

Nenuial is the other name for Evendim.

That sounds right, how about Tuor and Idril, was that right? Otherwise I would go with Turin Turambar and Findulas {Spelling?}

I will email you the answer
