As for the OP, it’s surprising how many people assume that since Brazil is in Latin America, that Brazilians must speak Spanish (to be fair, many do, just not as their primary language). And I’m astonished to hear someone think that tango is a distinctly Brazilian dance.
I do find it amusing, though, that Argentinians and Brazilians both spell “oops” the same way–I’ve noticed my Brazilian friends spelling it “upps,” too. 
Actually most nazi war criminals escaped to Argentina not Brazil.
I have a great anecdote. I am from Tucumán (north Western Argentina), many years ago a german called Richard Clemens used to teach at the national university there. He become close friends with my best friend grandfather (also German, a mechanic during the war).
