After all, he was a Socialist too!
Back in 2002, Tom Delay denounced Texas A&M and Baylor University as ungodly. Baylor doesn’t teach Creationism–& the debauchery in Aggieland (A&M) shocked his daughter. His advice:
Research revealed that DeLay was kicked out of Baylor in 1967 for, among other things, dancing! Which was forbidden at the time–Baylor is run by the Southern Baptists. (So he got a degree at the University of Houston. And maintained his exemption…)
His daughter is not a shrinking violet; reports say she enjoyed A&M. Originally an All White Male school with compulsory membership in The Corps, it’s loosened up considerably. But many would still consider it conservative.
Except for Tom DeLay.
Sheesh. Why doesn’t he just change his name to Dale Gribble and be done with it?

Just when you thought no greater depths of dumbth could be plumbed:
Sigh. He wants the government to be the giant tit we all suck on. He wants the taxpayers to shoulder the burden for paying for that tit.
Socialist from start to finish. And there are times when I can’t tell who’s a worse socialist, him or Clinton.
From the second page of that review:
So, whether it’s socialism as we understand it or not depends, i guess, on how closely (or not) it followed Western notions of what constitutes socialism, and how much was changed as it “adapted to the peculiar circumstances of the Arab world.”
If your reason for emphasizing this is some attempt to make a logical connection between socialism with the dictatorial brutality of Saddam Hussein, it’s a pretty shabby argument.

It certainly convinced itself that it was.

Cambodia under Pol Pot was called Democratic Kampuchea. There are times when the labels people choose for themselves are belied by the reality of their actions.

Ah. Yes.
Why does anyone listen to Tom DeLay anymore? He’s already been disgraced, discredited, and is known far and wide as being no good.

Not to the Party Faithful. To them, he’s been railroaded by an obviously partisan prosecutor. And they’ll believe that right up until DeLay actually passes away.

He even has a book.
Even now. And he’s not (AFAICT) even required to turn over the revenues to the courts for restitution to victims. True story!

Welfarism != Socialism. Don’t blame you a bit for being opposed to both systems. But do draw the disinction; otherwise, you risk being classed in with the conservative ranters who don’t have a clue what they’re talking about, and are ignored by everyone but each other.

Poly, this is Clothahump. He’s already classed in that box and has been for several years now.

Yes we are, and the Labour party is still the socialist party of Great Britain according to what it says on the membership card.
Although I do believe that the difference between what Socialism means in the US and Th EU is vast.

Over here, “socialist” pretty much means the same as
“no god damn good freedom hating godless commie filth”
or some variation of it. It’s a bad thing.
