Every article I’ve read says that he’s not expected to last the day. TMZ seems to be the only one that never ‘confirmed’ that he was dead.
Seriously, TMZ might post a lot of reality show stuff, but it’s also extraordinarily rare for them to post something incorrect. Just start there and keep refreshing the page (they’re also usually one of the first to post the correct info).
Whether he is dead at this moment or not, everything indicates that he will be before much longer. Rest in peace, Tom.
I remember when ‘Stop Draggin’ My Heart Around’ was released (1981). By that time I had pretty much abandoned radio rock/pop and was all about this punk/new wave deal goin’ on.
But damn, that song grabbed me somehow. The vocals, in particular (both Tom’s and Stevie’s) were so perfect for such a perfect song.
It wasn’t what us cool kids were listening to, but 'twas then that I became a Petty fan.
mmm
I was at Live Aid in Philadelphia and the heat was hell that day. Tom came on pretty early, cracking into “American Girl” to open. We all leapt up and started groovin’. Thank you, Tom! No words, just sadness.
Whenever I try to introduce someone to him, usually by explaining that, no, really, you already know a ton of his music, you just don’t know that you know it, at some point they realize that he’s the American Girl/Silence Of The Lambs guy and that’s the end of that.
I’m amazed by how many people can’t or won’t listen to that song because of the movie.
His daughter posted on Instagram that LAPD had erroneously reported to Rolling Stone and TMZ that he’d died (why is it their job to do that, anyway?). She was pretty pissed about it and said he was in fragile condition, but hanging on. I hope that’s the truth.
Maybe somewhere down the road aways (end of the line)
You’ll think of me, wonder where I am these days (end of the line)
Maybe somewhere down the road when somebody plays (end of the line)
Purple haze
I certainly don’t. He is (or was) basically brain dead, his heart was stopped and he’s barely clinging to life. Even if he does recover, what’s his life going to be like? I would prefer he drift off to an eternal sleep and enter heaven not backing down
I’m so thankful I took my kid to see him almost exactly 3 years ago, Oct. 5, 2014 down in San Jose. We had a blast. I’m also very lucky that my friend’s boyfriend could not make the rescheduled concert here in Sacramento last month and she asked me to go. He was so alive on stage. It’s hard to believe.
It was already changed when CBS erroneously reported his death. It doesn’t seem worth the effort to change it, then change it again when he ultimately does pass on. He’s off life support and isn’t expected to live.
Do we actually know that to be the case? The first reports I read said that he was found unresponsive and was taken to the hospital with no pulse, and at some point was taken off life support because no brain activity was detected. Now, most or all of those initial reports seem to have been retracted; the latest news I’ve seen (from Billboard, about half an hour ago) said that paramedics were able to restore a pulse, and make no mention of brain activity.
At this point, until there is an update from his family or his publicist, I think don’t think we know much of anything.
I’m not going to play musical chairs with the thread title. If he has not passed away by tomorrow night or the next, I will change it then. Until then, however, things don’t look too good (God forbid, however…I hope he pulls through), so I’m going to leave it for now pending better news, because from everything I have heard and read, it doesn’t look good at all. Again, I hope I’m wrong.
I’ll change it tomorrow night or the next…or on the update of good news. Or another CS mod can change it if they want, I don’t mind.
I don’t like that.
I don’t agree with that.
You could have fixed it faster than you wrote this and another mod could have changed it if need be.
And yes, I reported it, maybe one of the other mods will fix it since you don’t seem to want to.
It’s wrong, and as one of my favorite performers, the ‘whatever, he’ll be dead soon anyways’ is really fucking insulting.
