When Delbert “Bus” Brown returned to Woodbine, Iowa after serving overseas in WW II, he put his engineering and machining skills to work, manufacturing his own line of farm equipment. Eventually, this one-man company became part of a larger local manufacturing firm.
In 1965, Brown again started out on his own with the Woodbine Manufacturing Company. He started the company to manufacture another type of equipment - hydraulic liftgates for pickup trucks. Named after his son, the TOMMY LIFT® original hydraulic liftgate was originally designed to help move heavy loads into and out of trucks
