Tongues the key to eternal youth?

Ha! Made you look, huh?

My friend said she read an article stating that middle-aged and older people who speak a second language on a regular basis will not only have nimbler minds, but actually have a younger phaysical ppearance than monolingual people of the same age. Is there, in fact, any evidence to support this theory … or is just some reporter trying to fill up a slow news day?

If it’s true, I maintain that I get double credit because Vietnamese is so much different from English. Spanish? Pah, that’s for lightweights! Of course, I might counteract that benefit a bit by speaking Vietnamese so badly.

Sweet!

(Never heard of this. Can your friend provide a cite?)

I assume she read it in a Vietnamese paper, making it extremely suspect. That’s why I came here for the straight dope! It would be sweet if it’s true!
