Tony Romo's Attempting to play in golf's US Open

One of the years biggest golf tournaments starts a week from Thursday, the US Open. One of unique aspects of the US Open, is that about half of the field is made up of qualifiers.

This year, Tony Romo survived Round 1 of qualifying, and today is the final stage of qualifying.

Romo is one of 35 players playing at the Woodlands, in Houston Texas going for 2 spots.

Romo shot a 1 under par 71 in the first of two rounds today. He had 4 birdies and a triple bogey. He is T10 and has an outside shot of getting one of the two spots. It would be quite an accomplishment if he does it.

Also playing in Houston today is Steve Elkington who has won several PGATour events including the PGA, one of the four majors.

Houston had some weather delays and they may not be able in finish all 36 holes today

Houston Scores

Tweet updates say that Romo WD in the 2nd 18 holes after rain delays. The live scoring console has no such indications.

He withdrew because the multiple delays have created a conflict with Cowboys training camp. I say good on him, both for trying and for withdrawing.

You mean the US Open is … open?
