Tony Stewart to retire after 2016 season

My buddy and I were watching qualifying for the Sylvania 300 yesterday and we were talking about how we were about to see a change in who was driving soon, partially due to retirement but mostly due to the fact that there’s a lot of young drivers coming up in the ranks. Typically, young drivers are hungry and eager, so to speak, and will work harder for less money than an older, established [del]worker[/del]driver.

Sure enough, today Tony Stewart announced that he’s gonna call it quits after next year.

I think in Smoke’s case it’s more about the accident than anything else. He just hasn’t been the same driver since.

He’s also a team owner, so he really needs to worry about the sponsor for that car. They may be getting antsy with not even a Top 5 this year.

Aye, that’s what I think, too.

He had the broke leg a couple years ago. Then last year had the accident that killed that driver. Rough couple years.

I hope maybe he’ll come back after a year or so. He’s pretty young to retire permanently. But I guess it depends on getting his confidence and edge back.

Time for NASCAR to make another change to how you can qualify for the All-Star Race - “Did we say that former Cup champions still have to be active? We only meant that for drivers who won their Cup titles more than 10 years ago…”
