Too angry too speak....

Oh my, watch out, I’m gonna blow…
I HATE the f******** cable company, oh man, I am soooo angry I can’t hardly even speak. I just gotta vent. Excuse me…
I get the high speed cable internet access, at the urging of my spouse, even though, in my heart of hearts I know, it is a grievious error to rely on the cable company for your server access.

Well, sure as sh*t, the service is interupted almost as much as it’s working, the tech line is a huge joke. You get a recording saying, ‘you may be experiencing no conectivity’.

On each recording these people have ever made, no matter the problem, they always include, ‘we have no ETA on the fix for this.’ Shut the HELL up then, I don’t need to know that!

Eventually you get directed to the web page, where if you look, you can find a board with other people also bitching about the lack of service, there is a come back from the company with an apology for the disruptions and a promise to offer a discount to people who had disruptions.

My bills comes ($248), excuse me? No discount for the internet. I call (okay, I knew this was a fools move but felt I had no choice).

Foolishly I called the billing enquiries line, and they directed me to the tech line (please, God, not that…) I have spoken with like, four different people including a Mujeeb Sheikh and an Esther Fish!

They are trying to tell me that they will process the discount sometime in March. I pointed out that the bill in front of me was due today and for three months service in advance !!!

I HATE the cable company. For what other service do you pay 3 mnths in advance and then expect wretched service?

They have a complete monopoly, how do they get away with such things? They have the sweetest deal in capitalism, pd three months in advance, very low expectations of service from customers, most can’t be bothered to get a refund if the service is disrupted, because they’re just used to it !

:::sigh:::

:::sigh:::

Thank you, I’m feeling much better now…

Wow… nice rant, feeling better now?

Seriously, what cable company do you have that is providing your service. The Time Warner/RoadRunner service in my area is fantastic - didn’t know if that was what you were using or if you had other options like TW/RR. Of course, that could all change now that AOL has their hands on it…

The Sleeper has AWAKEN!

Maybe my phone connection ain’t so bad after all…

Too angry to type properly as well, I see.

Lemme guess. Shaw?

Shaw was a good guess, but I am in SW Ontario, it’s the dreaded Rogers Cable.

God help me.

To make things even worse today was the postdate deadline for my friends application to grad school, she’s in Zimbabwe, her mail server (for the whole country), was down for 3 days, my mail server was down all day today. So the best I can do for her is forward it on with an explanation (easy to confirm that rogers was down) and throw myself at their mercy.

I feel guilt as I was the one who assured her if she took this job (with an aid org) she could/we could get her application done from Zimbabwe. I had collected all the requesite transcripts and references and then the damn cable…

No, I won’t go there again today,
tomorrow’s another day. Maybe I’ll take another stab at it then.

Thank you all for your support, it helps to know you feel for my suffering.

THEY WANT A 3 MONTH ADVANCE? It sounds to me like they are in dire need of cash to demand that ridiculous amount of money upfront. Which would make me wonder about the viability of the company…

Make sure you document every time you try to log on and are unable so you can demand a refund.

FWIW, I hate cable, too.

I was gonna go for dsl, then I discovered something called “Internet Boost '99” from www.bonzi.com. It costs $30 but well worth it. It adjust the MTU, or MSS or RWIN or some kinda thing and makes my 56k modem fly. Between that and McAfee my connection is almost as fast as the LAN, or T1 or whatever we have at the office. I don’t know. I just work in the accounting dept.

$248 for 3 months of crappy service??? That’s outrageous. We had a Comcast@Home cable modem connection here for a while at something like $40/month (US). The service was generally good (only a few outages I can remember and they were storm related).

Unfortunately, Comcast wouldn’t let us run our own server, and the throughput was degrading over time, so now we’re paying a couple hundred a month for DSL (~1.1 dedicated Mbps upstream and downstream, 32 IP addresses). Of course, we’re also saving a ton in web hosting fees, so that number should be a bit lower.

Sorry, I didn’t mean to mislead you.

The bill includes 3 months of pay tv access, plus 3 months of cellular phone access AND 3 months of internet cable access. And some other useless thing I can’t recall right now.

We used to have a second phone line and a server, and we switched to this for the speed (magnificent when it works) and because we already had the pay tv package with this company.

We also already had a cell phone, putting them all together was actually a savings.Did I mention this wasn’t my idea? Still there is no way around the fact that the cable company can’t even spell the word service ! I wasn’t upset about the amount (it was what it was advertised as) I was upset because I didn’t see any discount, the very least I should expect for such wretched service, especially since they suggested it!

Virus scanning software is speeding up your connection? Well, okie dokie then. You can tweak your registry settings all you want and you’re never going to have cable speed. An analog phone line simply can’t handle it.

I am the user formerly known as puffington.

Ah… that’s MUCH better! From that angle, it’s actually pretty cheap. Small comfort when it doesn’t work, though, eh?

I already know that the cable company in my area has bad service, I use DirectTV as my satellite service. No way am I going to have this cable company supply my internet service. Right now I have it with my telephone company and they do better than the others I’ve tried.
Wow, I can understand your frustration. Hope that your situation improves.

I’ve learned that if someone says something unkind about me, I must live so that no one will believe it.

Actually, McAfee produces more than VirusScan software. They have some excellent utilities that clean up the registry, get rid of uneeded shorctuts and dead files, launch applications quicker, and generally speed up the entire system. Check it out. www.mcafee.com Also, we use IE at the office but I like Netscape for my system at home
