I rarely shop online and never have ordered anything this close to Christmas.
If I ordered something from one of the big web retailers (Amazon, etc) would the order generally get here on time? Does overnight or next day type shipping work this close to xmas?
I realize this post is vague regarding who I order from but a general “probably not, maybe so,” type answer would be appreciated.
Amazon says that if you order today you can get it by 12/24 with standard shipping - if you need it faster, they have plenty of other shipping methods. I would imagine most retailers are being generous with shipping (Sierra Trading Post, for instance is doing free upgrades to 2-day air).
Beats me, but I just last night canceled an Amazon order I placed on the 3rd because it still hadn’t shipped. I need my gifts by Sunday, so I’m just going to have to take my list and finish up in the brick&mortars.
I ordered something on Amazon.co.uk for my weepy-eyed emigrant brother in heathen England this morning. They state that it’ll get there before Christmas - I won’t be happy if it doesn’t seeing as I paid extra to have it gift-wrapped.
I posted a thread yesterday in Humble Opinion re: Internet Christmas Shopping Secret For Procrastinators
Your last resort at this late date?
Google the city/country where your gift is to show up, find a local store with a local delivery truck.
I have chocolates in New Zealand being handmade and delivered to friends who live close by. I have DVD’s being delivered by a store clerk in Canada who lives less than a mile from my brother.
A flower shop in Berlin actually knows the woman I am sending a Christmas basket to - four doors down the street. The exchange rate is great now, so I was actually able to buy more than if I had bought it here and shipped it.
This means NO shipping charges, impossible to be late, and if there is a problem, the person you are gifting can saunter over to the nearby shop and ask for their present.
Thank you Google.
Also, Walmart and other stores allow you to pay for a gift certificat that is e-mailed to the giftee. (24 hour or less turnaround) Doesn’t get any easier, faster and cheaper than that for us procrastinators!
