"Use that Bless, and then I’ll see if I can’t drop one where he stands. Someone got Sleep handy?
I cast Bless per appleciders request and then ready my mace. There is a definite lump in my throat (and possibly something else). Running through my head is one thought: “Don’t die, don’t die, don’t die.”
Let’s get it on!
Note- by “drop one where he stand”, I mean with my bow.
It might be sensible to attract their attention with our wizards, then we close-quarters types will ambush them as they charge.
[outside of game]Do you say that out loud to get our opinion? Or are you just thinking about things? My character can’t read thoughts (yet) so I think it’s important we clarify what we’re doing so we don’t say battle plans out loud for enemies to overhear.[/outside of game]
(in a small whisper) “I think all the wizards are back at the caravan and we have no quiet way to communicate with them (1 fighter, 2 clerics, 1 thief). We’re on our own for the next round or two. At my low level, Bless wears off quickly.”
Also, I think this corresponds to Malacandra’s sleep schedule so we’ll need to be patient for a few more hours. With the delay, it’s kind of tricky to get the timing of actions to align properly. To clarify, I will cast Bless right when we’re about to commit to action. All discussion or battle strategy should be understood as happening before I cast and appleciders attacks.
“Frodo, I hope the other guards come back soon and tell us what that smell is. I’d like to get this wagon rolling. They really didn’t bring enough support to deal with anything major with us split up to keep protecting the wagon.”
Seconded. Hit them with something long range, so I can use Backstab when they come through the bushes to investigate.
“I will bravely… provide backup.”
Don’t get all limp noodly on me now!
Thanks for this. One more question: what about the People from the Mountains. Did they bring any religion with them? I’m starting to think that I’m from the displaced people and see a special importance in protecting the current boundaries and even reclaiming the lost land steppe by steppe. (I know the pun doesn’t fit but work with me. Gaming brings out my worst impulses and I 'pun’ish people that don’t agree.)
“Say uh… fellow ignorants, what do you think the forward group is doing up there?
Think we should be ready for something just in case? Who’s left back here?”
Oredigger77 and the wizards are still “staying at their posts”. What do they do when they hear a violent altercation?
I’m part of the forward group. In case combat starts:
When combat breaks out, ACM will stay near the back, fighting only if engaged or if an ally gets swamped. At the first reasonable opportunity, even if combat is still going, he’ll try to free the hostage before taking a defensive position again.
What do the wizards and other fighter do? I don’t know! Hopefully they’ll do something smart.
I’ll loose one arrow for sure, then either draw and loose another if time permits, or draw my sword, clutch my shield, and brace to break their charge.
It sounds like we have a course of action.
Wolverine casts Bless (then readies his weapon for next turn).
appleciders shoots a monsterous humanoid.
Autolycus is hiding, waiting to backstab somebody that goes past.
Melon is waiting behind Wolverine and appleciders.
So, what happens?
I’ll start running to investigate, sleep spell at the ready.
I froze for a moment in doubt, then run after Hoopy Frood.
Oh great, so the people we’re being paid to protect are no longer being protected.
We’re truly the greatest adventurers in the world!
We are still learnin’ the trade, we’ll get better, if we survive…
Hey, gotta look out for number one!
