Too Proud to Die - the Fighting Ignorants

Ishtar shall resume his position nearby the wagon again, and once again borrows Hoopy’s books to try to see what spells he can learn for the later.

But every so open he looks up to see if **Frodo **needs any help with the scroll. If so, he’ll assist in any way he can that does not require him to be placed in harm’s way.

Melon hops back into the wagon, explaining to the (likely curious) travelers that the Fighting Ignorants have just repelled a horde of several dozen goblins.

“I helped!”

Actually, I could do something semi-productive.
I shall try to make small talk with the travelers and see if I can use my charisma to glean any extra information from them about where we’re going, their business, how their lives have just been valiantly saved by Ishtar and his band of Nobel Ignorants, and just be nosy in general in order to try to see if I can get any extra facts from them.

I’ll observe Toejam’s chat and see if I can ascertain whether our travelers possess anything of value.

I carefully read the scroll, if it looks like a spell or invocation i read it silently, if not i read it aloud.

The travellers are friendly enough. They have an assortment of merchandise and supplies to trade up at Kullen and the vicinity, where one of the local industries is stone-quarrying.

The scroll seems to be a map of some sort - it might even be a local one, but some patient study with someone with local knowledge might help.

Spell studying will take a day per level of spell. Let me know which spells you all want to learn from (and are willing to teach) each other.

The travellers have a few portable valuables on them - coin, personal jewellery and so forth.

Unless any of you knows differently, you reach Kullen before sunset. It has a palisade made of stout timber that encloses fifty or more dwellings, a church and graveyard, the kind of tradesmen’s establishments you might expect, and a hostelry named The Six Bells.

Does the hostelry have a bar? If so, I head on over for a bar and chat up any friendly locals sitting next to me.

I’ll follow Auto to the bar but rather then chatting up the locals I’m going to be looking for someone to keep me company that night.

Hey, those aren’t mutually exclusive.

Since I remain wounded until it is time to sleep, I’ll eat some basic nourishment at The Six Bells and reserve 8 beds. I will then find a quiet place to meditate and watch the others’ behavior for my amusement for a couple of hours before going to sleep.

Bar. Beer.

And time to work that better than average charisma.

And mention to Frodo that the Inn owner might be a good person to ask about the map.

I’ll allow **Hoopy **Access to my own Spell book if he desires, and I’ll retire to my chambers w/ his book to learn Magic Missile (and then if I have the time, mhttp://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/images/editor/color.gifaybe try to learn that Sleep, and then Friends in that order for now assuming anytime i have the free time and access to Hoopy’s Book or until I decide to try my hand at something else.

Might as well try to increase the offensive capabilities of the Wizards early in the game, as Charm as my only offensive spell will not get me far…

Having a beer at the bar sounds like an excellent plan.

Melon sets up shop in the commons near the bar, spreading the Pastafarian Gospels to the townsfolk.

I will start trying to learn read magic from Toe Jam’s book.

I’ll ask for a beer in the bar, then follow frood’s advice and talk with the owner about the map.

“There is nothing quite like a cold ale and a warm woman after a day of watching other people fight.”

I was just thinking about my plans tonight and they seemed to line up with where we are in the game.

There’s a reason I changed my name to Ishtar! No one will respect a great and awesome wizard named Toe Jam! :frowning:
You must never reveal my secret to the others, Hoopy!

There’s no hurry to learn spells - you’ll need at least an uninterrupted day’s study for that, not just a quick evening in an inn at the end of a hard day. Beer is for sale, food is basic but available, but Oredigger77 manages to work out that if he wants any compliant company for the night then it is going to cost him a few discreet enquiries and some hard cash - there are no voluntary takers.

The Six Bells is run by a red-bearded gentleman named Usshur (you know this because the hostelry is subtitled “Usshur’s” under the signboard outside) and he has all he can do to handle trade tonight. He does say that Parson Ramell is something of a scholar and may be able to help with your map. You will have no trouble finding the parsonage in a settlement of this size.

Oddly, the locals seem a little stand-offish after the first hour or so - you seem to catch them muttering when you’re not looking at them. And Melon is making no converts at the moment.

(Apologies for the late update, I’ve had a busy day and just got in from performing at a St George’s Day concert.)
