I’ve read a quote stating to the effect that “Tools can be the subtlest of traps”, but I can’t remember for the life of me where I read it. Does anyone know?

I’m not positive, but it sounds like something out of The Sandman by Neil Gaiman.

Yes, pretty sure it was around Sandman #7 or so - it was made by Dream himself, referring IIRC to the ruby which he had invested with a large portion of his power.

Yeah, I’m pretty sure it was The Sandman now. Thanks, it was really bugging me, and that would have been one of the last places I’d have looked.
