Jake Tapper just interviewed Senator Toomey, who’s been saying for a few days now that President Trump committed impeachable offences and should be removed.
Jake started pushing back on him: You supported him after Charltotteville. You supported him after he had peaceful protesters tear-gassed so he could wave a bible. You voted for him and didn’t speak out the past two months when he refused to concede he lost, undercutting democracy.
Toomey: Everyone knows that his behaviour the past few days is completely different from how he was behaving before. He’s clearly gone off the rails. Plus, he did a lot of good things for us before he went crazy. [My paraphrase].
It’s getting ridiculous how much the “moderate” Republicans have to grasp at straws to find an excuse to not remove Trump from office other than their own self-interest.
All the more reason the Dems should impeach and force all of them to get on record as a yes or no.
I really don’t see the value in that. It will only impress their constituencies with their dedication to The Cause.
Impeach Trump, conviction loses in the Senate, and you have congress critters in both houses on record for how they stand. So what? It will all get buried in the noise as we turn to the next crisis, whatever it is. If your goal is to get these people out of office, you’re going to have to do it the hard way, at the polls, working hard and consistently. No big gotcha moment, just relentless campaigning.
Fuck all of them. All the Republicans in both Houses of Congress. They all knew what he was like all along. They all could have had the evidence given to them a year ago. But they blocked the evidence and pretended that everything was fine.
And now we are where we are, and they’re all pretending that there was somehow no way they could have known what Trump was really like.
