My son had to have a tooth pulled yesterday, so we got into a discussion of the Tooth Fairy. We asked if he knew who the Tooth Fairy was, and he replied “I put my tooth under my pillow and he’ll brings me a quarter?” (He learned of the Tooth Fairy from Santa Clause II, apparently. I always thought the Tooth Fary was a chick.)
The chests of the moths in my wallet swelled with pride at my boy’s low financial expectations. I went on to tell him that discussing Tooth Fairy payoffs at school is one of the worst things he could do, and that if the Tooth Fairy finds out about it, he’ll start leaving Dog Biscuts instead of quarters.
So, I know 25 cents is lowballing the kid, but how long do I have to go until he gets a “merit raise”? Will he outgrow the Tooth Fairy before then? He’s 5 now, and just started Kindergarten.
Our daughter has an appointment to get 2 wisdom teeth pulled soon. I know she won’t have the teeth, and she WILL be 18 years old, but I’d really like to screw with her head and leave maybe $5 per tooth under her pillow. Maybe put the cash in an envelope with a note and some fairy dust (glitter).
That’s a little over the top, but I figure it’ll give her a little, painful smile to start her day with.
My mom used to drop cicada wings (I don’t even want to know where she got them. She must’ve had a stash of 'em!) on the bed when she’d leave the money from the ‘tooth fairy’. It was cool.
