Perhaps you all can help me find the thrashiest song I have ever heard. Ridiculously fast, primitive guitars. Dates from about 1978. In French, perhaps by a French-Canadian group.
“I Hope You Get Drafted” The Dicks
“Albright Monument Baghdad” Propaghandi
“Struck a Nerve” Bad Religion (the song that got me into punk originally)
“Dinkas When I Close my Eyes” Against All Authority
“Clone” Avail
“Wrecktheplanetfantastic” Dilinger 4
Lots of good choices so far, but I’d have to add my #1 favorite punk song, “Petroleum Distillation” by Fifteen, “Sound System” by Operation Ivy, and almost anything by the great Social Distortion… perhaps “Story Of My Life.”
This is a wild stab in the dark but maybe Voivod? They were an incredibly speedy French-Canadian Thrash Metal group. I don’t think they started recording until the early '80s, though. I haven’t actually listened to any of their music for about 20 years so I may be a bit off in my recollections.
Blitzkreig Bop - The Ramones Los Angeles - X
*See You In The Boneyard * - The Flesheaters
*The Next Big Thing * - The Dictators
*Marquee Moon * - Television
*Love Comes In Spurts * - Richard Hell and the Voidoids
*Heart of Darkness * - Pere Ubu The Modern World - The Jam
*Coup D’Etat * - The Circle Jerks
*Pretty Vacant * - The Sex Pistols
Not so much a definitive top 10 for me just the first 10 I could think of that I would call essential punk songs.
I’d put “Mommy’s Little Monster” way ahead of “Story of my Life” for punk songs. We’re also missing the Dead Kennedys’ “Holiday in Cambodia,” the Misfits “Die Die My Darling,” and Black Flag’s “TV Party.”

SHAM 69 Angels With Dirty Faces
THE CLASH Complete Control
THE DAMNED New Rose

THE JAM In The City
RADIO BIRDMAN Aloha Steve And Danno
RAMONES I’m Against It
THE REZILLOS Flying Saucer Attack
BUZZCOCKS - Harmony In My Head*
1978 was the year of Frenchie PLASTIC BERTRAND Ca Plane Pour Moi
Other’s may not agree, but Rhino’s 'No Thanks! The ’70s Punk Rebellion’ looks good. I don’t have it, but assume it’s a collection of their out of print D.I.Y punk series compilations. If it’s $65 price tag isn’t in your budget, the seperate CDs are available on half.comRhino D.I.Y Punk from the UK, NYC, Boston & LA discs
Hmm, after careful deliberation & reflection, starting with #1 (the best)
