Top 6@6 Poll Week #39: Your 6 Fave Creedence Clearwater Tracks AND Week #38's Results

Subtitled: If you can’t tell the difference between Creedence Clearwater Revival and Creedence Clearwater Revisted, you’ve failed AOR 101…please move along.

1ST: Last Week (#38’s) Poll Quick Tallies
Previous Week’s Turnout: Light – As assumed. I knew Creed was a hated band, but I would’ve never guessed they’d be the 1st band with zero votes!

Questions, Answers, Issues, Requests & Honorable Mentionsa) Your Comments & Queries:
From: Snooooopy: “Stuffing the ballot box for “Rain King,” are you?”
It was a total oversight…honestly (and I only counted 1x from me) Believe it or not, I don’t even live anywhere near Chicago.

From: don’t ask: “Is there any easy way to keep track of these threads? I hardly ever spot them but really enjoy contributing to the few I have managed”
Actually, by the accounting department’s figures, you’ve managed to vote 4 times, hence a weekly vanity search will always display every poll from here on in. There’s no other unorthodox search method I can recommend, I’m trying to have the staff do them on a regular (i.e. weekly) basis – every Tuesday at 6PM - so keep your eyes peeled on the Cafe Society forum midweek.

b) Future Poll Requests:
(None were made in any of the Week #38 polls)
I’m gonna go back & mix in a few ‘A, B & C’ artists that were passed by (like Louie Armstrong, The Buzzcocks, The Butthole Surfers, Dave Brubek & John Coltrane) when we get to the ‘D’ artists.

c) This Week #39’s Poll Requests:
Labdad requested the Commander Cody & His Lost Planet Airmen poll. No one requested Fogerty, it was announced way back in Week #24. I was torn about including Fogerty’s solo work in the same thread as CCR or giving him his own thread (like we did with a lot of other solo artists). I flipped a coin - and John Fogerty gets his own Headliner Poll.

d) A Few Asides:
This is the 3rd week with the coding facelift. If you have any suggestions on making any of the 6@6 threads more readable, please let me know. I discovered a long time ago the posters to these threads have better musical taste than any FM or satellite radio Program Director on this planet. Hopefully, after the ZZ Top poll, sometime next decade, I plan to compile all the votes from the SDMB & post them on the web and in a thread. Then I’ll burn a several volume CD set & send ‘em out to the top voters who helped keep these threads going.

3RD: Newcomers To The 6 At 6
Your name in lights. Thanks for Voting and Welcome all. The past week’s polls had 7 new respondents to the 6@6.

8TH: Tentative Schedule & Disclaimers
Featured / Headliner / Supplemental Poll. Based on requests and the like:
[ul][li]This Week #39 (Twang Week): Creedence Clearwater Revival / John Fogerty & Commander Cody (for Labdad).[/li][li]The One I’ll Hate Tallying – Week #40: CSN(&Y) (for cmkeller) / Neil Young & Stills / Manassas, Crosby / Nash & Others. []The One I’m look Forward To – Week #41: The Cure / The Cult / The Chemical Brothers (for gex gex) & The Church (for hawthorne)[]Fish Week #42: Ray Charles / Sam Cooke & Marshall Crenshaw (ALL for Fish42).[/ul][/li]9TH: This Week #39’s Headliner Poll
I can’t provide a link to it because the featured poll and results get posted first. Access it one of 3 ways: (1)Click the link on my signature. (2)Access it through the Café Society page. (3)Bog down the server and do a search on: The 6@6 Headliner Poll… John Fogerty. The Headliner Poll also includes links to all the past polls.

10TH: Week #39’s Supplemental Poll
Find it the same way you find the Headliner Poll. The 6@6 Supplemental 6@6 Poll… Commander Cody & His Lost Planet Airmen. As a regular feature, The Supplemental Poll also includes The “Straight Dope Message (Bill)Board" Top Vote Getters List (So Far). Check it out and see if “Watching the Detectives” will be knocked out of the coveted top position. (I have a feeling it’ll take a while. It will either be Dylan, Van Morrison or Steely Dan if I had to guess)

**Lastly: Week #39’s Featured Artist Poll **
All you have to do is list your six favorite tracks from this week’s featured artist. If you’d like to add your own liner notes or opinions, please go right ahead – I, for one, love reading them. If you specify a live version, it will be noted, but tallied with the studio version. Cover versions are acceptable, as are duets and off-shoot projects. Please try to be as accurate as possible when naming your favorite tracks.
Without further ado, a band who deserves to have an entire genre named after – maybe something along the lines of ‘Swamp Rock’: Creedence Clearwater Revival.

Here are my 6 CREEDENCE CLEARWATER REVIVAL selections:

4. Suzie Q
3. Born On The Bayou

  4. Who’ll Stop The Rain
  5. Long As I Can See The Right
  6. Bad Moon Rising
…although if you asked me tomorrow, the list would be altogether different. It’s really not fair to ask someone to make a list of their favorite CCR tunes. There are so many great ones…
  1. Lookin’ Out My Back Door
  2. Down on the Corner
  3. Bad Moon Rising
  4. Born on the Bayou
  5. Proud Mary
  6. Fortunate Son
Tough one. I have to say that I was able to come up with 12 all-time Creedence favorites without any strain and that narrowing it down to 6 was painful. Also, their version of I Heard it Through the Grapevine is one of my favorite jam songs of all time. If I could go to 7, it would be lucky #7.

Ooh ooh! Finally I can play along at home too:

  1. Travelin’ Band
  2. Sweet Hitch-Hiker
  3. Susie Q
  4. Run Through the Jungle
  5. Green River
  6. Fortunate Son
  1. Down On the Corner
  2. Lookin’ Out My Backdoor
  3. Who’ll Stop the Rain
  4. Have You Ever Seen the Rain?
  5. Bad Moon Rising
  6. Fortunate Son

Also, I hope that within the next few weeks, the plan is for the top six of the Cowboy Junkies somewhere. And if we can go back in time to an artist forgotten earlier in the list, my favorite junkie cowboy, Ryan Adams.

#1- Ramble Tamble
#2- Fortunate Son
#3- Green River
#4- Up Around the Bend
#5- Lodi
#6- The Night Time Is the Right Time

  1. Susie Q
  2. Down in the Bayou
  3. Down on the Corner
  4. Proud Mary
  5. Looking Out My Back Door
  6. Bad Moon Rising
  1. Long As I Can See The Light
  2. I Put A Spell On You
  3. Have You Ever Seen The Rain?
  4. Hey Tonight
  5. Proud Mary (the first one I heard, and the one that stuck)
  6. Effigy

Since the Blue Ridge Rangers falls after CCR but is Fogerty’s first venture outside CCR proper, I don’t quite know where to throw “Working On A Building.” Let’s just call it an honorable mention here, since it sounds more like something he’d have done in the CCR context…though if it could be ranked here, I’d put it in right after “Effigy” and knock “Long As I Can See The Light” out.

  1. Fortunate Son
  2. Travelin’ Band (great start, great drums)
  3. Up Around the Bend (I love the vocal/ guitar interplay at the end)
  4. Down on the Corner (classic use of the CCR guitar voicing)
  5. Lodi
  6. Looking Out My Back Door
  1. Suzy Q
  2. Lodi
  3. Fortunate Son
  4. Down on the Corner
  5. Proud Mary
  1. Proud Mary
  2. Lodi
  3. Out My Back Door
  4. Fortunate Son
  5. Green River
