Top 6@6 Week #27 Supplemental Poll: Post 6 Faves by The Bonzo Dog (Dada/Doo-Dah) Band

Subtitled: Bonzo Went To Bitburg, but somehow ended up in Café Society

First: The Who’s, What’s, Where’s & Why’s of the Supplemental Poll

In an attempt to squeeze as many bands in the shortest amount of time possible, The Monday 6 @ 6 Poll, is once again featuring a supplemental poll. A couple weeks ago, RealityChuck recommended and Labdad seconded we commission a Bonzo Dog (Dada / Doo-Dah) Band poll…Here it is. This supplemental poll, like the regularly scheduled Dave Clark Five thread will be closed and tallied 6 days from today, Monday October 28, 2002 at or about 6PM EDT. Results from both polls will be posted a few minutes later on that same day in Week #28’s regularly scheduled Johnny Cash 6 @ 6 Poll.

Second: The Poll & How it Works

It’s simple enough, post your 6 favorite songs by the artist. Personal observations, opinions, liner notes, comments and the like are always welcome but are in no means required.

Third: The Supplemental Poll Artist’s Discography (Reader’s Digest Version)

If your memory of the featured artist isn’t exactly up to speed, here’s a link to their discography with 30 second cuts of some of track previews when you drill down through the albums: Outro Gorilla History Of The Bonzos Cornology Complete BBC Recordings New Tricks Cornology Bestiality Of Peel Sessions. Feel free to post selections from The Rutles: Rutles Archaeology or any other solo / offshoot project (Except Tubular Bells narration). The link, provided by CD Now, is meant to refresh you Bonzo Dog “101” knowledge & jar loose any forgotten titles, please refrain from voting based on .wav previews)

Lastly: The Supplemental Poll Artist of the Week

Without further ado, the UK’s answer to Zappa & The Mothers of Invention: ** The Bonzo Dog Band**.

Similar to the [url=]Belle & Sebastian Poll, I’m pleading ignorance & leaving my picks blank. The only thing I have of their’s is The Rutles Soundtrack recently re-issued by Rhino. (Evidently, we Yanks don’t give The Bonzos the airplay or in print CD selection our English brothers evidently do). My copy of Cornology is on a cargo ship somewhere across the pond, but if it lands stateside before the weekend, I’ll make my selections accordingly.

Here are my 6 (blank) BONZO DOG BAND selections:

So tell us…What are your 6 favorite tracks by The Bonzo Dog (Dada / Doo-Dah) Band?

Thanking you all in advance. Have a great week.

OK, John - thanks! And it’s a pleasure to submit the following for your consideration:

  1. I’m the Urban Spaceman
  2. My Pink Half of the Drainpipe
  3. The Intro and the Outro
  4. Rockaliser Baby
  5. Mickey’s Son and Daughter
  6. Shirt

Incidentally, Viv Stanshall of the Bonzos is the narrator calling out the instruments on Mike Oldfield’s “Tubular Bells.”

The Bonzo’s were incredibly influential on the Monty Python troupe. Anyone who likes Python should really check these guys out!
