Tiffani was stubborn and egotistical. But those are traits that she might learn work against her and she can improve. Stephen is a lost cause, though. I thought Harold was about to take him down for the disrespectful way he was talking to Candice.
I’m thinking Miguel is the one to beat. As good as some of the other chefs are, he seems to be the most complete package. He caters his presentation to the customer and is flexible and creative.
I was a bit surprised by who they sent home. I thought Dave was on the chopping block for sure. I want to like him; but he keeps failing. Step it up, Dave, or you’re going home very soon.
I thought the voiceovers were even worse this week. Top Chef suffers in comparison to Project Runway; it just hasn’t quite found the right fit yet – not showing enough actual cooking, the judges’ table, the guy who pretends to be the Tim Gunn for the show – it’s not clicking yet.
Miguel cracks me up. He just exudes genuine interest and caring and joy in what he’s doing and the people he’s around, so it’s nice to see him succeed.
I think Tiffani doesn’t belong on the show. She clearly has the cooking chops, but how could she NOT know that by signing up for a reality show, she’s going to be expected to endure some circus elements? It’s television, for heaven’s sake! She should have just gone to work in a real kitchen and learned some humility. She would be intolerable to work for in a real restaurant.
Ah, Stephen. I want to smack the taste outta his mouth. The way he went after bubbly, naive little Candice put him far below her level, though he’ll never realize it. She’s inexperienced as a chef but it was especially painful (although in a way, good, I suppose) to see how inexperienced she is in handling personal attacks. I hope she learns how to keep her composure better over the course of the show.
I totally agree with JeffB that the show just hasn’t clicked yet. It could be a lot more fun when it hits its stride, but for now, the dim-bulb, utterly useless hostess combined with obvious voiceovers and no way for viewers to really appreciate the results are crippling it. I think they found a great mix of people to put into the kitchen, it’s everyone else (hostess, fake Tim Gunn, and judges) that sucks. Or they just need to hire better editors.
