Help! I fell asleep before the end of the show. I know Miguel won. . . but who had to pack their knives and go home???
It came down to Cynthia and Andrea and they kicked off Andrea. Steve was his usual insufferable self. They dissed his choice of champagne with his dessert, which I loved.

Thanks much!
I think you mean “Stephen” – I can see him being a prick about that. He’s one of the people I want to reach through the TV and smack. I thought his quick fire challenge was different, but somewhat silly.
I can’t believe they booted Andrea over Cynthia. When the judge said one of them didn’t have the making of a top chef, I could just picture Cynthia having a complete mental breakdown trying to make a deadline on a meal. At least Andrea is somewhat composed (even though her dishes aren’t elegant), Cynthia is just a trainwreck waiting to happen.
It seems that Andrea’s dishes are roundly dissed, she probably wouldn’t win anyway, but compare Cynthia to the steely confidence and authority of the chef they had to work the line for in the first episode. I can’t see her pulling off a birthday party for a 6 year old without melting down, much less commanding a restaurant kitchen.
I bet Cynthia goes mental at some point, I don’t see her lasting much longer.
To be fair, Cynthia is somewhat distracted by events back home.
If Stephen is that arrogant in his real life, I don’t know how he’s managed to survive without someone knocking his block off. Unfortunately he seems to cook well enough to keep from getting sent home soon.
Nobody seemed to really do a great job with the challenge. And some of the chefs seemed to be rather prudish.
Yeah, I know. Something tells me she’s not all that composed even when not distracted by events back home.
The previews seem to hint that his block might be in jeopardy next week Maybe not being sent home jeopardy, but put in his place.
Miguel seems to have a grasp and some talent. He’s finished at or near the top a couple of times, I’m rooting for him (he also reminds me of a friend of mine…that’s scary!).
His costume at the Freak Party was downright disgusting! Wasn’t he supposed to be that hideous fat Scottish character, whose name I can’t remember, from one of the Austin Powers movies?
Oh, I remember now: FAT BASTARD!!!
I think he was just Freakin’ at the Freaker’s Ball*. He evidently made an impression, Mistress S wanted to spend some time with him, even though she admitted she thought Stephen and Brian were sexier.
- If you’re not familiar with Dr. Hook, Google “Freaker’s Ball” for the lyrics.
I watched this for the first time last night (2 episodes) and holy cow, that little spokesmodel / hostess chick is THE WORST! It was hilarious listening to the startling changes in pitch and inflection when she moved from stuff she’d rehearsed and/or memorized and the stuff she said on the fly. I swear I could see the air flow between her ears. So totally vapid.
Stephen is annoying, but I got a kick out of Cynthia getting his name wrong (“How’s it going there, Brian?”). Good stuff.
My favorite is Miguel. His appearance and demeanor make him easy to underestimate, but he seems to really have the cooking chops. Plus it’s nice to see such easy affability in a field where egotism is rampant.
Tiffani also seemed to understand the task. Sadly, according to the judges, her cookies weren’t good. Had they been - I think she might have been a contender.
Also, there were at least three glaringly obvious voiceovers during the judging/at the table section.
Obviously reality is staged - but a better sound guy would definitely have been useful at those moments.
She’s MRS. BILLY JOEL!!! (She was on Martha Stewart’s show yesterday.) And she’s got a gi-normous diamond ring on her left hand.
I hate Tiffany. IHATEHER. I hate everything about her.
The cookie idea was really good, but I was delighted when the cookies were nasty because IHATEHER. And Stephen! IHATEHIM.
Gosh. I feel better.
Anyone still watching?
Anyone?
Stephen needs to become a main course. “I’d like to bring her up to my level, but of course I can’t.” He’s insufferable. And can’t feed kids. And I’m sorry Tiffani had immunity - her attitude really ticked off the judges (and me). MonkeyDogs - heh.
StG
I don’t like Tiffini, and she should have gone home - stupid immunity.
I want to reach through the screen and punch Stephen. Multiple times. Every time his stupid head shows up on the screen. He’s just a horrible person.
But as for the losing team, all of them know that they need to present the food. All of them do those “platings” and garnishes and circles of sauces. With the kids, talking to them, cheering with them was part of presentation, and they refused to present their food. That’s a total failure. Trying to justify it was pathetic.
Which is why I’m loving Miguel - not only does his food seem to be excellent (according to the judges). But he connects with the customers - no matter who they are, the professional chefs, Madame S, the kids. He seems to make really good food and get people to enjoy eating it. Which is the point…isn’t it?
I’m not sure if I should post in here. I say that only because I’m so much more humble than the rest of you. I just feel like you need my opinion to help you form a reasonable opinion of your own. I would ask only that, instead of showering me with thank-you posts and comments about my magnificence, you would just watch reverently and learn from me. I will leave you with letters arranged prettily:
I
AM
WONDERFUL
BREATHE
ME
I don’t like this show as much as PROJECT RUNWAY. I guess it’s because it’s just not as visual. We have no idea what that food really is, how it tastes, etc. The drama seems forced. And the hostess is no Heidi Klum, that’s for sure. Maybe we need a culinary Tim Gunn to guide these contestants a bit. I don’t know.
But I’m watching. I’m such a sheep.
Stephen, the pursed-lip little bitch, should lose those stupied fat ties.
He’s awfully fun to hate though.
Tiffani’s facial expression at the judges table was totally “I’m right and I don’t care what you say”.
