Top TV Tunes #2-Cartoons

Which Saturday morning(or syndicated) cartoon theme music do you remember fondly? Some of my favorites from when I was a tyke are Astroboy, Thunderbirds, and Gigantor, but the one that I remember most is Cool McCool.
What’s your favorite?

Here he comes
Here comes Speed Racer
He’s a demon on wheels…

*Overture, curtain, lights,
This is it, the night of nights
No more rehearsing and nursing our parts
We know every part by heart * ~ The Bugs Bunny Show

*When you find youself in danger,
When you’re threatened by a stranger,
When it looks like you will take a lickin’, (cluck, cluck, cluck)
There is someone waiting,
Who will hurry up and rescue you,
Just Call for Super Chicken! (cluk, ack!)
*

Roar, roar, roar for Linus the Lionhearted.
Roar, roar, roar for that’s how our show gets started.
~Linus the Lionhearted

Isn’t the correct lyric “Ovature, curb the lights…”? Or have I just been wrong all these many years?

Hell, I always thought it was “Overture, light the lights…”.

What’s an ovature?

Jonny Quest was the ultimate cartoon theme.

But I also have a fondness for the jazzy theme to Wally Gator.

Ovature?..Why it’s a :smack:

I meant, “Overture, curb the lights…”

And, after googling a misheard lyrcs site, Wheelz is correct.

Full lyricshere.

Well, yes, I suppose I was correct about the Speed Racer lyrics…
But give zamboniracer credit for the Bugs Bunny theme.

Underdog had a pretty cool theme.

*Road Runner, that Coyote’s after you!
Road Runner, if he catches you, you’re through!

That Coyote is really a crazy clown!
When will he learn that he never can mow him down?

Poor little Road Runner never bothers anyone.
Just running down the road is his idea of having fun!*

When criminals in this world appear,
And break the laws that they should fear,
And frighten all who see or hear,
The cry goes up both far and near for
Underdog,
Underdog,
Underdog,
Underdog.!

The instrumental music from Robotech, especially the opening orchestral theme, but even the specialty stuff (bumpers, battle soundtracks, incidental music, romantic music). Normally couldn’t take the songs with vocals, but “We Will Win,” sung by Minmei, in concert with the massive battle going on simultaneously, is also awesome. They managed to snag a very competent soundtrack composer (Ulpio Minucci, IIRC) whose stuff fits the series very well even after nearly a quarter century. On the other hand, the synthesizer score for Robotech II: The Sentinels, is badly dated.

The Vince Guaraldi jazz scores to the early Peanuts TV specials… man, I love that music. (Yeah, it’s neither Saturday morning nor syndicated, but hey.)

Absolutely nothing can beat Fat Albert’s bass line.

Don’t know if anime counts but I love the theme to “Cowboy Bebop.” I think it’s called “Tank.”

“Animaniacs” had a great theme song too.

Bugs Bunny theme already mentioned, so I’ll go with:

The themes to:
Hong Kong Phooey
Banana Splits
and maybe the Land Of The Lost.

I’m sure I’m missing a bunch. Gotta think too far back!

Rocky & Bullwinkle used a handful of different themes, as I recall. My favorite was the kind of jazzy number that played while Bullwinkle danced in a top hat and tails and ended with the lights in the marquee blowing out. You know the one.

Yeah, the Johnny Quest theme will always turn my head. I didn’t think anyone still remember Cool McCool.

And I’ve always had a soft spot for anything by Jay Ward.

In his Thunderbolt Grease-Slapper, when he’s on your tail.
He won’t quit because you know there’s no such word as fail to…
