Well, it looks like our Tor-Dopefest thread went Bye-Bye.
Is there still any interest in it? (The thread seemed to die off not long after it was started.)

Well, it’s on the SDMB Dopefest Calendar*.
Let me re-iterate what we’re planning:[ul][li]July 13 & 14, 2002[/li][li]Saturday afternoon barbecue out on the Islands[/li][li]Evening of drink, food, conversation, much fun and drinking (and I think Jack Batty wanted some drinking in there, too)[/li][li]Sunday brunch somewhere nice (Movenpick, perhaps?)[/li][/ul]There are plenty of spare beds available for those out-of-towners who wish to join us, but are budget conscious.
Hey, folks? Don’t make me start naming names to catch the ego-surfing…
I’m sure enough of you have found your way back to the board to pipe up once again!
I would like to attend. I would like to take the fast ferry. That last part is an “in joke” for us Upstate NY dopers. I am very good at sleeping on floors. **TORONTO ** Is the resturant “Ginsberg and Wong” still open?
Count me in! I’ll be there, and if anyone has some spare floor or something relatively flat to sleep on that’d be wonderful too.
There is a very good chance New & Improved Scott and I will be in, too. I’m not sure yet whether we’ll need sleeping space.
Maybe the Montrealers who are going could get together and arrange some kind of transport?
Canada411 doesn’t have a listing, so I presume not. I guess that means you actually liked that restaurant.
For Saturday night, I’m trying to plan somewhere that will be a lot of fun and still cater to a wide variety of tastes (carnivore, vegetarian, etc.). So far, the leading candidates are:[ul][li]Fionn MacCool’s (Irish pub)[/li][li]Joe Badali’s (Italian)[/li][li]Il Fornello (Italian)[/li][li]The Loose Moose[/li][li]The Peel Pub (not very seriously, at least not for the uh, “food”)[/li][*]Duke of Argyle (Nova Scotia influenced pub)[/ul]Anyone require kosher?
You guys have a Peel Pub over there, too? If it’s anything like Montreal’s Peel Pub (recycled food, crappy beer, haven for underaged kids) we should definitely skip it.
I can go if I’m not too swamped with work.
Toronto Island… last time I was there… I remember duck poo.
It was probably Goose Poop.
(Band name…!)
I’m up for it, and can offer an air mattress on the floor of a one-room apartment to a Doper in need…
Isn’t the Fast Ferry that Russian hydrofoil thing that I hallucinated going to the non-existent Niagara-on-the-Lake docking facility in one time in 1998? Very sixties retro-futuristic. I’m sure I can dig up some blurry pictures that might or might not be the lights of Toronto photographed from the middle of the lake…
Just don’t mention Fast Ferry to anyone political from BC.
Know what? You’re right. Consider it dropped from consideration. It’s not like there aren’t three or four hundred other establishments to consider.
LaurAnge,
I’ll be driving over from Burlington Vermont, so I can definitely pick up some Montrealers who will be going as well.
Just to keep up on things, I’m still planning on coming.
I just started doing temp work here in Maine, so I’m not sure what my schedule and/or monetary situation will be like in July, but I’ll be there come hell or high water.
My tentative plan … drive to New York, visit Zette, if she’ll have me (I haven’t mentioned that to her anywhere, so if she reads this in passing it’ll be a nice little surprise for her – Surprise!), end up at my uncles house in Niagara Falls somewhere before the 13th. Head to Toronto, and hope the hell someone will let me sleep on their floor.
Apart from all of that – it’s open ended.
[Apparently, I can’t let more than one or two posts get into this thread before posting again…]
Hey, don’t worry Jack, we’ll find you a gutter to sleep in.
To add some meaningful content:[ul][li]Saturday (July 13) @ 1pm - BBQ at Hanlan’s Point (there’s a small amusement park on Ward’s Island, and softball, vollyeball, frisbee, etc. are possible)[/li][li]Saturday @ 7pm - dinner at a downtown restaurand [TBD][/li][li]Saturday after dinner - carousing at some bar :D[/li][li]Sunday @ 11:30am - Brunch at Movenpick (York north of King location)[/li][li]Sunday afternoon - tours of various attractions for those who wish them[/li][/ul]Suggestions? Comments?
Eeeeeeeteresting.
I ought to pay more attention, damnit.
I’m going to need to work out a way to get there (hopefully getting a lift from some nice, kind Doper!) 'cause train tickets (both ways) are 150$. Pretty steep.
So why don’t we start to work out transportation from Montreal to TO?
Never can tell…
Is anyone interested in a list of the best cheap restaurants in Toronto? I can make one.
Mnem, I was beginning to wonder if you were gonna show up in this one. You did miss KimKatt’s, after all.
LaurAnge, I hear matt has an SUV. Maybe he’ll drive.
iampunha, but when will you?
Lissla - I’d be much more interested in hearing that you’ll come to the Dopefest!
I must have missed this thread when it first appeared last month. This sounds good to me.
