Toronto DopeFest (hereafter TorDopFest)

Alright, it sounds like we need a TorDopeFest. Cerowyn and I volunteer to organize! April 6-9 weekend looks like the plan, probably Saturday night, since JeffB and RealityChuck will be here that weekend (see the above thread).

Now taking suggestions for a location, although we reserve the right to make an arbitrary decision ignoring all input :).

Let the chaos begin!

K… so I’m inOttawa… Matt (hi matt) is in Montreal… are we allowed to come too?

It’s in Toronto… not just for those who live here… ('specially since it was inspired by two visiting Dopers…).

EVERYBODY’S welcome!!!

Woohoo! Somebody else volunteered!

I’m not much of an organizer, I’m afraid.

I don’t have any suggestions at the moment (I’m not quite awake yet) but I’ll get back to you. Eventually.

April 6-9. Hmmm… It depends whether I can get to/decide to go to an Esperantist thing in Boston for free or not. If so I may - MAY - be able to come. but it’s right at the end of term, too.

It would be fun tho!

unless something work-related pops up, i will also be there.

Hey – I helped inspired something! Saturday night sounds good to me. Just let me know the details. I’ll be staying at the Westin Harbour Castle, which I understand is right downtown. (I don’t know if I have one bed or two, but someone could crash in my room Saturday night.)

I’ll be at the Toronto Colony on Saturday and the Sheraton the rest of the week.

It is right at the end of the term for me too, but I think I can make it down.

Hope no one minds the guide dog

E.

Hey, maybe. If I’m not swamped with crap to do that weekend, maybe I can join in at one point ot another.
Hopefully. I wanna go to a dopefest.

I would have called it TorFest; we could have shaved our heads and talked with Swedish accents.

As I’ve said, I should be able to make it. I’m off that weekend and have no plans. Will this be a meeting only or shall we going to descend as a group upon some unsuspecting tourist attraction like the ROM or the CN Tower?

I’m a sucker for showing off my city, but I guess it’ll depend on how many out-of-towners we have interested in site/sight-seeing. It’s a truism here (and, I suspect most places) that even the natives only get to see the attractions when they’re showing them to visitors.

Anyone have a vote one way or the other?

Well, I’m starting a CCNA course that Saturday (it’s from 9am-2pm, I think, on Sat and Sun for three weeks), but if we’re meeting sometime after 2pm I should be able to make it.

While the idea of going “ethnic” (e.g. into Chinatown or the Danforth for Greek) is appealing, I think the best bet is to stick to somewhere mainstream, like Armadillo’s (TexMex technically, but pretty mainstream) right downtown so that people can get there easily. If anyone’s interested in making a trip to the Air Canada Centre, CN Tower, Hockey Hall of Fame or SkyDome, they are all within a half mile or so of the restaurant, as is Union Station (the major train station for downtown Toronto).

Any objections from those that know the place?

Okay, can there be that few Toronto Dopers? We need EVERYBODY to speak up now, so that we can get enough people to get the back area of Armadillo’s to our selves! So, roust every Doper you know that lives in and around Toronto, or who might be willing to travel here for a night of debauchery and hot monkey sex. We’ll deal with the over-sell once everyone’s here…

Oh, and I should confess that this is Cerowyn hijacking theotherangel’s machine temporarily.

Come on folks! We can’t afford to have TorDopeFest under-represented!!!

Just keep us posted on the details. We’ll see if we’ll be available. (Not trying to sound snobby or anything, it’s just that my business has this nasty way of getting in front of other events.)

Seriously, if you can keep me (and other GTA Dopers) up to date with the details, I’m sure we’ll do our best to be there.

Works for me. I live down the street from Spadina station and work by King station, so I’m always pretty close to Union station. And I may be taking the course at a later date now anyway so I’m hoping that the time shouldn’t matter for me (I should know within a couple days).

That’s convenient for me.

I should be studying, but, hey, one night can’t hurt. I agree that a downtown location is most appropriate, but I’m biased 'cause I live there.

The plan for now is to meet at Armadillo’s (146 Front Street West, just west of University [on the north side for those who don’t know the North/West rule]) at 7:00 PM on Saturday April 7th. We’ll let you know if anything changes
once we make the reservation.
