Toronto Dopefest Revisited. (Calling Cerowyn, come in Cerowyn...)

Here I am! Back from 5 days in Quebec City!

Anyway, here’s the plan (as far as I know). I will be driving up to Montreal (once Andygirl arrives in Burlington) to pick up Laurange and friend (ooo la la!), and now scott evil. That gives me a full car. I can leave just about any time on Friday, the earlier the better, depending on Andy’s arrival. So, I’ll need 2 nights of accomidations.

And Scott, we could definitely do a FNDD. I know it’s a few weeks away, but I’ve had such a stressful past few days that I’m sure I’ll still need to relax by the 12th!

Just have to also say I’m really getting psyched for this! Yeah!

Eonwe, a few of us are getting together this Friday (I think…) in Montreal. You’re more than welcome to come up and join us, but I can’t put anyone up, as I’ll still be bunny-proofing the place and it will be upside-down… (Bunny’s coming to live with me on Saturday).

Check the Montreal (Queer) Dope thread for more info.

Thanks scott! I did see that, but it’s looking like I’ll be stuck here. I’ve got a production going on this weekend and next. Thanks though!

A production? A theatre person? We should talk. I write musicals.

Email me if ya want.

Hmm. Stacks of batteries… must go shopping in Chinatown… what size batteries?

It takes 8 D-size batteries.

Hmm… I’ve never run it on batteries… I have no idea how long one set will last.

Hopefully long enough.

Okay, so [is] there an alternate plan if the strike continues? I humbly suggest somewhere in High Park.

Oaky, so I’m back to reading about this post… (Things were up in the air for a bit, there.)

Mega-Mel is being his usual self and saying the strike could last quite awhile, . A High Park location may be a good idea.

Oh, I am so dumb… I’m sewing wool on a 35"C day…
I live in the east end, so I’m not too familiar with High Park. West enders, where would be a good place to meet if the strike’s still on?

The most obvious place to meet is at the main entrance of the park, on Bloor Street: go to High Park subway and exit at the east end of the platform, and walk past the bus platforms east to the the High Park Blvd entrance. Turn right and cross Bloor Street at the lights. Do not take the Quebec Avenue entrance or (at the other end of the subway platform) the Parkview Gardens entrance.

However… the actual picnic-spot facilities (firepit, tables, etc) may need to be reserved. I have no idea of the protocols for doing this… except that they are probably handled by Toronto Parks and Recreation… whose “inside workers” may also go on strike. I could be wrong on this. I’ll have to ask the guy who reserves the spot for the Esperanto Club picnic in Sunnybrook Park each August. He’s mentioned “having to get there around eight in the morning to grab a good spot”, so possibly it’s first-come, first-served.

I also read that the outside park facilities are “not being maintained”, which I interpret to mean “no mowing of grass or litter pickup”.

Time to dig through the City web pages…

Sewing wool in July?

I’m making an outfit for a friend. What’s better is that the wool’s got a very complicated pattern I’m trying to match up across seam lines.

Uh, folks… there’s a little problem with parks in Toronto if the strike isn’t over: no washrooms.

As I said above, if there’s no movement on the strike by July 5th, we can make alternate plans.

Bother. Anyone got a house near a park? It’s only a week away! Other suggestions?

I know no one will like this, but if worst comes to worst, we could call off the day activities and just wait until the evening…

…I don’t like it either, but whatcha gonna do? :frowning:

Well, there are a few possibilies:[ul][li]Skip the afternoon event (a la Kwyjibo’s suggestion)[]Go to High Park, or Ashbridges Bay, and make use of local commercial establishments for “facilities”[]Meet at someone’s home[/ul]For that latter, we can safely choose the location where the majority of out-of-towners are already staying (such a possibility has already been raised; info & directions can be made available via email).[/li]
Whaddya think?

Well, whatever’s the most convienient for the hosts!

Eonwe, posse of five, will be arriving Friday night, so someone’ll have to take care of us needy children anyways.

Ach, that part’s covered. Indeed, if the third option I suggested is the route we go, you won’t have to travel anywhere on Saturday afternoon.

Are we going to call ourselves the Eonwe Posse?

Or maybe the Posse of Evil?

In any case, does anyone have a site with pics of previous Toronto Dopefests? I can’t take the suspense anymore. I want to know what you kooks look like!

No, but matt took a bunch of pictures of theotherangel, Mnemneth and me last summer.

Ah, but he didn’t put them up on his site. Just MontrealDope pics.

Speaking of which, MontrealDope (aka Doperéal) will be held the weekend of August 24. Plug, plug. Since I’m part of the organizing committee, it will be the biggest and best MontrealDope ever!

Cerowyn, can you do a revised list of probable attendees?
