From the National Post:
‘I’m 100% done with booze’ and 16 other Rob Ford lies, broken promises and statements at odds with facts
Newly released videos showing Rob Ford inebriated and swearing about the city’s police chief in a Jamaican accent, have abruptly ended the mayor’s two-month old promise to stay sober and further cast doubt over the reliability of of the mayor’s public remarks.
But the Toronto restaurant video is just the latest evidence set against a long line of statements from the mayor that have been proven to be untrue, given time, context and a little fact-checking.
The mayor’s latest outrageous rant was particularly humiliating for his brother Doug, who just moments earlier had staunchly defended the mayor, claiming there was 100% no way that he was drinking again.
In light of Ford’s latest public embarrassment, the National Post has gathered together some of the Toronto mayor’s greatest hits when it comes to missing the facts.

He’s being sued for allegedly having his sister’s ex’s leg broken in jail.
Whether it is true or not, the underlying circumstances show what sort of a person he is and what sort of a family he is part of.
Q: If he meets with Chris Christie, will they form a North American Syndicate?

I use Canoe.ca as my default news site.
This morning, the first news item was “Mayor Ford signs pictures during budget debate,” with a shot of him at his desk in the Council chamber, autographing a picture of himself wearing his chain of office.
The next two headlines were: “Lawsuit claims Ford behind jailhouse beating,” and “Ford denies any connection to murder.”
You can’t buy that kind of publicity!
Embattled Toronto Mayor Rob Ford said Wednesday he will take a leave of absence and seek treatment for alcohol, as reports surfaced of a second video showing the mayor with what may be crack cocaine.

Since he will now seek treatment, surely Dopers will now be more sympathetic toward him?
Man, when Justin Bieber is calling you out :
According to eyewitnesses who spoke to the paper, Ford drank to excess at a downtown nightclub called Muzik, became further impaired after disappearing into a washroom for an hour, and continued drinking until 5 a.m.
Pop star Justin Bieber was also at the bar and reportedly irritated the mayor by asking him, “Did you bring any crack to smoke?”
Apparently, the second video was also taken and sold to the media by Ford’s crack dealer.
It is a sad day when a man can’t even trust his crack dealer!
Rob Ford tape — full text: Toronto’s Mayor at an Etobicoke bar disparaging Karen Stintz, Tim Hudak and Italians
Bar-going Torontonians know that at any moment, they could find themselves in the bizarre situation of exchanging drunken banter with their chief executive.
Monday night, this happened to the patrons of Etobicoke’s Sullie Gorman’s, a bar just across the street from the home of Mayor Rob Ford’s mother and adjacent to a municipal park named after the mayor’s father.
An anonymous patron surreptitiously captured audio of the evening and passed it to the Toronto Sun, who posted it online in an edited six-minute audio file.

Honestly, anyone else doing this and his core supporters would be baying for the blood of such a thuggish druggie. This, however, will simply cement the whole persecution myth.
At this point, the whole situation has almost become a Mel Brooks comedy, and I’m half-expecting Ford to be re-elected in a landslide victory.
Seriously, at least Detroit’s last thug-ass mayor (Kwame Kilpatrick) was reasonably classy about it.
I feel sorry for him, and also for his wife and kids. Addictions can tear apart lives and families. I’m very glad he is seeking treatment.
He has no business being mayor, though, with what looks increasingly like a very serious drug and alcohol problem. Better if he had resigned outright. I appreciate, though, that addictions can mess up the thinking process, so this leave of absence is probably the best outcome at this stage.
He wasn’t exactly “disparaging” Karen, so much as seriously creeping people out …
Mr. Ford plans to take up to thirty days off to get himself straightened out. Now that’s what you call delusion.

If by “reasonably classy” you mean “Didn’t back down until he had cost the coty millions in court costs and finally resigned when it was obvious he was going to be jailed”
Then yeah, I guess that was classy. He was every bit as entitled and messed up as Ford is.
Where’s Robbo?
Rob Ford turned back from United States
After announcing he was taking time off to go to rehab, Toronto Mayor Rob Ford boarded a plane to Chicago last Thursday, landed, but then turned around before officially entering the United States.
“He voluntarily withdrew his application to enter the USA,” Consul General of Canada in Chicago, Roy Norton, confirmed to The Globe and Mail in an e-mail, saying the Toronto mayor “was not denied entry, per se.”
…
Asked for specifics, CBP spokesperson Kris Grogan said the privacy act prevents officials from commenting on “an individual’s processing,” but he pointed out that anyone hoping to enter the United States must “overcome all grounds of inadmissibility” – which include criminality, security reasons and documentation requirements, among dozens of others.
They figured letting Ford in would lower the tone.
