Total Hip Replacement

I had it done June 29, was released on crutches Sunday night, my posts to SD made no sense for a few days, went to a cane Thursday.
I’ve heard all sorts of wonderfull things, now I want the bad stuff. “Uncle Bob had one, (snap fingers) went like that!”
Thanks,
CP

Uncle Joe had one, it got infected, they reoperated on him, Uncle Joe needs a wheelchair to get around, but he can stand for a few moments if he needs to.

That’s my one bad family experience with hip replacement surgery.

I had one.

March 17th this year.

I had another one same leg april 14.

I broke rule #1
.I crossed my legs.
Just kind of one of those mindless things you do.Trip to the emergency room.It is painful and you cannot do anything except wait for the ambulance. Kind of wierd .I was standing in the livingroom waiting for them. They used a backboard to lay me down.
Two days later I was sleeping on my back, pillow between my legs ,all the right things and my hip just kind of went into a tremmor and popped out of place.
Another trip to the emergency room. They put it back in place again and I was waiting to see the Dr. He said well lets see, gave my leg a slight twist and it popped out again. He said well we’ve got to do it again.
Oh boy another boring 5days in the hospital.

A little advice. Don’t overuse the new hip. I was walking on my own, cane but nothing else about a mile before the hip went out again.

Be cool and give it time.

Any questions just ask.

Good Luck.

My ex-wife had one about 2 years ago at the relatively young age of 39. The doctor drove the prosthesis a little too firmly into the hole drilled in the bone end and it split the bone. He then had to take the prosthesis out and wrap the split part of the bone with some kind of clamp. While manipulating the leg to put the clamp on he somehow damaged the nerve in the leg and now she can no longer raise her foot. We divorced about 6 months after her surgery and before we were sure it was permanent damage. I have recently suggested she sue the doctor for malpractice, but since we are no longer married that is all I can do is suggest it. Between my ex-wife’s experience and yours justwannano, it is clear hip replacement surgery has its risks.

Risks, yes but considering the pain I was in before the surgery I would do it all again in a second.

I had planned on starting this thread before I had the surgery. Glad I didn’t!
I think I will sit down for about two months.
:}

Hell then your leg will just swell up.

One of the best things to have right now is a sense of humor. It can get you down if you don’t. Jump in there and give BooBoo a hard time. Of course you could take up knitting.

Doing fine, Just.
Er, what does it mean, “BooBoo”?

Thats Bratmans new nickname. On the second thought maybe he has had enough kidding. See MPSIMS

carnivorousplant, hope you are doing well, now. This thread reminded me of a great grandmother story: x-rays showed the increasing disintegration of the hip and the doc said he’d do the surgery if she’d lose weight. The great grandmother said if she lost weight she wouldn’t need the surgery and continued on with her plump, short, round life another 25 years or more - bridge, cooking, knitting and gardening were some of the things that kept her busy.

My favorite “keep busy” was a friend’s dad who decided to braid wool rugs while he recovered from a similar (long recovery) surgery. The rug was nearly room size when he ran out of red wool and cut up his daughter’s red winter coat to complete the rug.

Might be safest to take up reading murder mysteries!

I’ll stick with cable TV, the internet and the SD board!
Thanks
