By my bed, I keep a notebook in case I get a brilliant idea when I’m in bed, but it ends up just containing reminders of a bill I might not have paid, or someone’s birthday I might forget. Very rarely, I note something interesting from a dream I had, before it disappears with the light of day.
Last night, I wrote “skunkwood minet”. In my dream, I wanted to call something by that name. I was about to write a band, but it might have been the title of a play.
When I woke up this morning, I remember thinking that there’s no such thing as skunkwood, and that the juxtaposition of the English-sounding and French word had no particular charm.
So, I had heard of skunkweed, but not skunkwood. I decided to google it. To my surprise, I discovered that the skunk is sometimes referred to as a “wood pussy”. Well, since “minet” is a familiar French word for “cat” aka pussy, the title translates as skunkwood pussy, or skunk wood pussy. Odd choice of words for my notebook, huh?
I might need an analyst. Maybe this could be voted the most pointless and useless thread topic in history, and I would feel vindicated.
